This week’s music offering is the Mendelssohn Octet in E Flat major, which he composed when he was 16 (you were hopefully fumbling around with girls at 16, but Mendelssohn was different). It’s scored for 4 violins, 2 violas and 2 cellos - and it inaugurated a new form of chamber music - something beyond the standard string quartet. What you have here is the exposition of the primary themes you will hear repeated and developed during the first movement - which lasts about 15 minutes overall (I will link the entire recording in the next post). If you listen to this excerpt closely - you will recognize what you hear later, and be able to appreciate how Mendelssohn is playing with the themes. This is 1825, so we’ve already started to go beyond very strict and observable delineation of themes - they kind of bleed into one another without very clear breaks. But one pointer is the opening 10 seconds gives you the core of the first theme, and by the time you hear the pizzicato (plucking of the strings - you will see it too) you’re into the second theme group. Once you’ve got that in your head - you can listen to the entire first movement and have a good idea what is going on without any technical knowledge - just as a listener. I like Mendelssohn a lot. Probably will post more of his work over time.

I have something very special to share today! This is a hardware capture of maximqad's port of the Xash3D engine--which is compatible with the Half-Life engine--running on the Sega Dreamcast... ONLINE! Keep in mind this is EXTREMELY early in the days of the port, with no DC-specific graphics optimizations or hardware accelerated math routines yet, so performance still has a lot of room to drastically improve. Audio was literally just barely moved to the SPU for the first time just the other day too, so this is still all very incredibly new... ...but here it is! The engine that wouldn't even run without being on an emulator that also needed to emulate the extended 32MB RAM modification... now running on a stock Sega Dreamcast with online multiplayer connectivity and mouse and keyboard support! Fantastic work from maximqad! I really believe as this engine matures, it will be an incredibly powerful tool for Dreamcast developers and will potentially bring a lot of new software to the platform in the form of Half-Life engine mods!

GOD NEVER FAILS: Today marked a new beginning on our 11 years old medical case for Scandy Chelagat as the first process of her first eye implant surgery was a success at the Lions Sightfirst Eye Hospital done by a team of professional doctors led by Dr. Abhijit Rasal (Lions resident Doctor), Dr. Harsh (who flew in from India purposely for this important surgery) among other doctors. A further review will be done tomorrow, and on friday, a temporary artificial eye will be fixed as we await the magnetic impants to be intergrated with the surrounding skin there after the final artificial magnetic eye will be fixed. We're changing up our editorial process for the PFF big boards and mock draft sim this year to make things on both ends as genuine and realistic as possible. The way we've done that is by separating my personal big board from the one the MDS will run off. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN: The video below shows how to understand and navigate PFF's big boards page properly. When you go to the landing page, the first big board you will see will be our new "PFF's 2026 Predictive Board". This is the board the MDS will run off, and currently has 449 prospects ranked for you to draft (the top 255 have been personally ranked by me with the rest of the names gathered from All-Star Bowl watch lists with early consensus thoughts taken into player placement). The purpose of this board is to give us the freedom to let the MDS be as realistic as possible, even if we/I don't see a player as high or as low as the NFL might. This board will be updated weekly throughout the college football season, and then continuously throughout draft season. If you go to the right side of the screen you will see a setting button labeled "sources". If you click that you can go over to the "version" tab and see my personal big board to click and load. I will never have a player on my board who I have not personally watched. Right now there are 255 ranked on my board with many more coming with every passing week. I'll also do plenty of re-checks throughout the year to make it as up-to-date as possible. As stated before, this new process allows me to be as genuine as possible with my personal rankings while giving PFF subscribers enhanced realism and depth when using the MDS at any point of the year. A world first: a demonstration of AI running *on* blockchain as a smart contract 🧠⚡️ The Internet Computer is used – the world's first 3rd gen. blockchain #ICP. AI will become the beating heart of our web3, multi-chain world, and this is only my first demo. Code will follow shortly. This is running on DFINITY's Internet Computer testnet, but you'll be able to take the code and run it on the public network as the NNS is expected to up the per-transaction instruction limit in the coming days. Some important notes. The inference engine used has not been optimized, and we will show vastly greater efficiency in subsequent demos, where the AI runs even faster, and consumes less gas/cycles. We will also propose to the NNS that smart contracts have access to SIMD instructions – which we have determined are deterministic – unlocking vastly more speed and efficiency. Lastly, currently the actor smart contracts ICP hosts run inside a 32 bit environment, which limits their main memory to 4GB. Within the next couple of months, we expect the Internet Computer to move to a 64 bit environment, allowing smart contract memory limits to be raised much higher – allowing for models with far more parameters, and thus power, to be run. Those of you who have followed my posts know that hardware optimization support is planned. Firstly this will involve WASM smart contracts shipping out matrices for processing by the CPUs on existing node machines (another advantage of the Internet Computer running on sovereign node hardware). Secondly, we plan to propose a new public node machine specification, which node providers can build to, for use in subnets specialized for hosting AI smart contracts, in which each machine will incorporate several GPUs. Naturally, this will be packaged with other technological developments that ensure smart contract determinism. This is part of our mission to enable powerful LLMs to run as smart contracts on the Internet Computer – in a forms that are tamperproof, unstoppable, and optionally autonomous (including under the exclusive control of DAOs). Our vision: you will be able to have a chat with a smart contract. A smart contract will be able to coordinate your organization (see my earlier tweet about a "Delphi"). ICP smart contracts will be able to audit Ethereum smart contracts, kitemarking those without backdoors and reentrancy bugs. And smart contracts will be able to do KYC autonmously, matching faces to driving licenses, and more. We will deliver new SDK enhancements, and work with partners, to turbocharge crypto AI developers. Secure and unstoppable AI and third generation blockchain will be two sides of the same coin. Security and AI will be indivisible. AI models will be traded as NFTs. Quick demo of Zero’s new background queries. Zero’s sync is query-based. Rather than specifying what data you want using rules or some other separate system, you just use queries. Right inside the client app, you do a query using a full sql-style language. You get filters, subqueries , limits, etc. Zero syncs the data backing these queries to the client. It’s important to realize Zero isn’t really a cache. It’s a replica. It’s eagerly replicating a precise snapshot of a slice of your database - the slice covered by the queries you have open. So there is never stale data in Zero. When you close a query we delete the rows uniquely returned by that query because we can no longer keep them up to date. Of course that kind of sucks for the common case of doing a query, navigating, then pressing “back”. Ideally we want that back nav to be fast. To address this Zero 0.17 adds background queries. You can add a ttl to a query and it will keep running and syncing in the background. This is much different than normal caching because this data stays up to date. If you make the same query again, the results will be *instantly* available *and already up to date with server*. If you make a different query the data from the background query is used client-side to answer the new query instantly if possible. This all happens completely automatically. Just by adding the ttl flag.
