Scaling trapped-ions increases latency. For example, Harmony has 0.25ms lag. Aria has 0.65ms lag. Forte has 0.97ms lag. Coherence is another problem: at these slow speeds (Forte is 15,000 times laggier than the first 1980s PC CPUs), you can't do much before qubits collapse.
