iOS 26 could have ran on the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max with little issues really I don’t believe it was Hardware or Software limitations that stopped it receiving iOS 26. Up until 2019, Apple followed its long-standing “S-cycle” naming tradition: a new iPhone design would launch one year, then the next year would bring an “S” model — the same design, but with performance and camera upgrades (e.g. iPhone 3G → 3Gs, iPhone 4 → 4s iPhone 5 → 5s iPhone 6 → 6s, iPhone 7 → 7s/8, iPhone X → XS). The iPhone XR and XS, released in 2018, were the last models to follow this older scheme. It woudnt be an unfair statement to say the iPhone 8 is like an iPhone 7S in many ways. Starting in 2019 with the iPhone 11, Apple abandoned the “S” suffix entirely. Instead, it introduced a clearer product split: a base iPhone model (iPhone 11, 12, 13, etc.) and a more advanced Pro line (iPhone 11 Pro, 12 Pro, etc.). This shift simplified the lineup and gave Apple a way to market higher-end features (better cameras, displays, materials) under the “Pro” branding, rather than the old “S” cycle. This could of being a reason to why the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max lost support for iOS 26 which also follows a new naming scheme it’s self
