Contempt of Court is Not a Law in Ireland Under Article 15.2 of the Constitution of Ireland, the sole and exclusive power of making laws for the State is vested in the Oireachtas. This means that only Acts passed by the Dáil and Seanad, and signed by the President, can be considered “law” in Ireland. I note Prime Minister Andrew Holness’s remarks in a TV interview this morning. Neither he nor his Party has made those proposals as part of the process of constitutional reform. His proposals are therefore not in the report of the Constitutional Reform Committee, and will not be in the new Constitution coming out of that process. Furthermore, Mr. Holness’s proposals are not in the existing Constitution, and would violate the existing Constitution. This is in keeping with his and his Government’s unfortunate history of past violations of the Constitution of Jamaica. It seems that the Prime Minister wants to make up a rule which is not part of the Constitution or laws of Jamaica, to suit his Party’s political fortune at a time when it is waning. He has no power and no authority to do that. He needs to tell the country why his statutory declarations to the Integrity Commission cannot be certified. I am compliant with the Constitution and laws of Jamaica, and I undertake to the People of Jamaica that I will continue to be so.

Bonta: We brought a lawsuit today on behalf of the governor and the State of California, challenging as unlawful the president’s federalization of the National Guard.. The authority he relies on does not permit him to unilaterally call in the National Guard. The statutory conditions precedent are not present here. There is also a statutory requirement that the order to activate the National Guard be issued through the governor of the state—in this case, Governor Gavin Newsom, who objected to the National Guard’s deployment and did not issue such an order. Therefore, we believe the Trump administration’s action is completely unlawful.

The carnyx is an ancient musical instrument that best-known to have been used by the Celts during the Iron Age. Between 300 BC and 200 AD, the carnyx was used in many parts of Europe. In the ancient literary records, the carnyx is most commonly depicted as an instrument that accompanied Celtic warriors when they went into battle. Apart from literary sources, references to the carnyx have also been found on pieces of art and coins. Lastly, remains of this musical instrument have occasionally been found during archaeological excavations. The carnyx may be described as a type of war trumpet. This instrument was a valveless horn that was made of beaten bronze, and can be easily recognized due to its ſ-shape. Another distinct feature of the carnyx is its bell, which often depicts the head of some animal. Such animals include boars, dragons, serpents, birds and wolves. The bells of the carnyx were fashioned after these animals so as to strike fear into enemy warriors. Additionally, some bells were made with joints at the jaws, which would cause the animal’s head to move when the instrument was blown, thus adding to the psychological effect it had on the enemy. Whilst the sight of the carnyx struck fear into the hearts of the enemy, it was the sound of it, which has been described as lugubrious and harsh, that probably had a greater impact on enemy morale. It may be pointed out that it is unlikely that we will ever know how their carnyces had sounded. Nevertheless, it is possible to recreate this instrument, given that some of them have been found during archaeological excavations, and perhaps achieve a slightly better understanding of how this instrument worked. One example of a carnyx that has survived is the Deskford Carnyx, which was discovered in Deskford in Banffshire, Scotland. Only the head of this instrument was found, and it has been speculated that it had been buried as a votive offering to the gods. Although this instrument did not survive in its entirety, it provided enough information for a replica to be made. In order to recreate the rest of the carnyx, parallels, most notably artistic depictions from elsewhere in Europe were consulted. As a result, it is possible for us to hear the kind of sound a carnyx may have emitted when it was played. Nevertheless, the Deskford Carnyx is only one example of such an instrument. Prior to 2004, the remains of only five carynces were known. These instruments were found in Scotland, France, Germany, Switzerland and Romania respectively. #WATCH | Delhi: On the ED raids in the IPAC office in Kolkata, Senior Advocate Aman Sinha says, "This was an ongoing investigation in the Rs 1300 crore coal smuggling case and related Hawala transactions. In the course of investigations, it transpired that there were eyewitness accounts and statements to this effect, that a large chunk of funds was diverted to IPAC. It was the legal obligation, statutory duty of the ED to conduct a raid at these premises. And they were conducting this raid peacefully and in a well-organised manner, in accordance with the mandate of the PMLA Act. All of a sudden, the Chief Minister of the state stormed onto the scene of the ongoing huge corruption raid, and she came with police personnel, who snatched away all the crucial evidence, all the vital papers related to the investigation, and hampered the investigation. This is completely unethical and illegal. This is against the statutory provisions of the PMLA Act, against BNS, and completely unconstitutional under the basic tenets of our democracy and constitutionalism. This shows that it is a desperate attempt by the TMC to play the victim card and create hysteria on the eve of elections... I think great injustice is being done to people of West Bengal when corrupt people are being shielded by the Chief Minister, who are involved in such a big-ticket corruption scam..."

I was totally torn yesterday - the government is trying to use a Statutory Instrument (that you can't vote against) to sneak in criminalisation of ANY animal-rights protestors at Life Science facilities. BUT, those who opposed criminalisation were too keen to demonise valiant and courageous medical researchers/academics involved in animal testing to develop life-saving medical drugs.

Sri Amit Shah Ji Having worked with you for sometime in Central Govt, I can vouchsafe that out of all the top leaders in the Central Govt you are the most Hindu-minded. I have publicly congratulated you for your bold actions on Article 370 & CAA. Yet, in the last 9+ years of BJP rule in the Centre, public celebration of Hindu festivals are being banned and criminalised directly or by resorting to various subterfuges including through court orders. What kind of #Hindutva is this Sir, that your Governments at Centre and in States violate with impunity Article 25 of Constitution which gives fundamental right of freedom to profess and practice religion by public celebration of Hindu festivals by banning them on the specious ground of public order? Is that action of denial of fundamental right of Hindus on that spurious ground, not an admission of the utter failure and incompetence of your BJP Central and State Governments to maintain public order? By continuous denial of rights of Hindus for years to publicly celebrate their festivals, are your Central and State Governments not normalising their criminal negligence and utter incompetence in not upholding the Constitution? If this is not breakdown of constitutional governance, then what else could it be? Rose in the Lok Sabha to oppose the introduction of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which is a patently illegal and unconstitutional move by this Government. In 2023, we supported the implementation of women’s reservations from the 2024 General Elections itself, but then the Government did not accede to our demands. Now, they are using women’s reservations to bring in a dangerous delimitation exercise to gerrymander the entire country like they did in J&K and Assam. A bill that strikes at the heart of our Constitutionally guaranteed federal structure must be withdrawn.

Rose in the Lok Sabha to oppose the introduction of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which is a patently illegal and unconstitutional move by this Government. In 2023, we supported the implementation of women’s reservations from the 2024 General Elections itself, but then the Government did not accede to our demands. Now, they are using women’s reservations to bring in a dangerous delimitation exercise to gerrymander the entire country like they did in J&K and Assam. A bill that strikes at the heart of our Constitutionally guaranteed federal structure must be withdrawn.

There is a committee of three judges investigating the matter, but investigation is domain of the Executive. Investigation is not the domain of Judiciary. Is the committee under the Constitution of India? No. Is this committee of three judges having any sanction under any law emanating from Parliament ? No. A committee can at most make a recommendation. The kind of mechanism we have for judges, the only action that can be taken is by the Parliament. A month has passed. An investigation requires speed, expedition and preservation of incriminating material. As a citizen of the country and holding position which I do, I am concerned. Are we not diluting rule of law? Are we not answerable to 'We the People' who gave us the Constitution? I would strongly urge everyone concerned to examine this as a test case. What legitimacy and jurisdictional authority does this committee possess? Can we have separate law made by a category and the law made by that category, dehors Constitution, dehors Parliament? The committee report, according to me, inherently lacks legal standing. #RajyaSabha

Article 37 of the Constitution provides that every person has the right to PEACEBLY and UNARMED to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket, and to present petitions to public authorities. 2. The right to assemble demonstrate, picket and present petitions to public authorities is hence exercisable under Article 37 of the Constitution under two conditional precedents which must be met: PEACEBLY and UNARMED. Have the maandamano we have witnessed being done PEACEBLY and by UNARMED persons? 3. Suffice it to note that the right to assemble, demonstrate and to picket is not an absolute right. 4. Article 24 of the Constitution provides that the right to assemble, demonstrate and to picket is one of the rights that can be limited vide legislation to ensure that the enjoyment of rights and fundamental freedoms by any individuals does not prejudice the rights and freedoms of others. This is the position of EVERY SINGLE president that has occupied this position since the day that law passed. It's completely unconstitutional.
