Here’s Jobs explaining the screen:

Jobs was asked why Apple wanted to be in handset market. His answer? “It’s a category that needs to be reinvented.”

Despite the excitement, there were plenty of skeptical headlines:

1.4 million iPhones were sold in the first year after its release. Today, it’s estimated 1.4 million iPhones are sold every 2 days.

The iPhone also opened up the app economy. Here are a few things that didn’t exist before its launch: App Store Airbnb Instagram Snapchat Uber Pinterest WhatsApp WeChat FB Messenger Apple Maps Angry Birds Candy Crush FaceTime Slack Siri Lyft Square Stripe Tinder Venmo

Jobs wrapped up by quoting Wayne Gretzky:

Before & after 2007 ⚡

No doubt #iPhone has made a difference since then. My old #iPhone6 was turned off in late 2019 with a stopwatch on. I opened it today and guess what?! The chronometer is still ticking.! It doesn't surprise me because it's an #iPhone.

I thought the iPhone was so dumb when it was announced. Turns out a software keyboard isn't as bad as I thought 😂

@hnshah I forgot he did that :-)

Incredible the transformation it unleashed in all our lives, 'asante sana,' thank you for sharing.

I wish I bought 100k in stock back then!

Its was tech junk Wasn't even 3g, when 2g wasnt even good enough to work in japan, because they were already on to 4g

Straight from the master of the RDF, RIP Steve 😢

Steve Jobs iPhone reveal was the greatest ever. Most successful, profitable, world-changing product in history.

Wow, can't believe it's been that long since the iPhone was revealed! Legend

😍

I really don’t understand how this was 24 years ago, almost a quarter of century. It honestly only feels like a few years. The iPhone as an ecosystem is one of those rare feats that truly revolutionizes multiple industries and has a lasting impact.

And the world was never the same from this moment after..

Unbelievable

I remember watching the web browsing demo at work (as a front end web developer) and releasing my workload was going to increase dramatically😆

Have you updated your phone to iOS 17?
