U.S. Department of State 2201 C Street NW Washington, DC 20520 United States Subject: Urgent Appeal for Intervention: Lynching of Christian Lazer Nazir Masih in Sargodha, Pakistan Dear Secretary of State, Secretary Antony Blinken I am writing to bring to your urgent attention a tragic and deeply disturbing incident that occurred on May 25, 2024, in Sargodha, Pakistan. Lazer Nazir Masih, an innocent Christian, was brutally lynched in broad daylight by a mob of Muslim Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan perpetrators on false blasphemy. This horrifying event underscores the persistent and escalating hatred against Christians in Pakistan, an issue that has been prevalent for centuries. The lynching of Lazer Nazir Masih not only highlights the severity of religious intolerance in Pakistan but also exposes the state's complicity in these atrocities. Eyewitness accounts reveal that women were actively chanting and leading the mob in the looting and killing of Nazir's family. This incident reflects a broader pattern of systematic persecution and violence against the Christian minority in Pakistan. Adding to the outrage, the Government of Pakistan's response to this incident has been deeply troubling. Lazer Nazir Masih was reportedly taken to a military hospital, a decision that raises serious questions about the intentions of the authorities. The government has also prevented Nazir's family from visiting him, fueling suspicions that he has already succumbed to his injuries and that the authorities are concealing his death to protect the perpetrators and obscure the truth. It is with a heavy heart that I must state my belief that Lazer Nazir Masih is already dead, and the Pakistani government is engaged in a deceitful cover-up. This despicable ruse aims to shield the assailants from justice and perpetuate the ongoing conspiracy against Christians in Pakistan. Given the gravity of this situation, I urge the U.S. Department of State to: 1.Condemn this heinous act of violence and demand justice for Lazer Nazir Masih and his family. the Government of Pakistan to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into the lynching and the subsequent handling of the case. for the immediate release of accurate information regarding the condition of Lazer Nazir Masih and grant his family access to him. 4.Advocate for stronger protections for religious minorities in Pakistan to prevent such tragedies from recurring. The international community, particularly the United States, has a moral obligation to speak out against religious persecution and to support efforts to ensure justice and human rights for all individuals, regardless of their faith. The plight of Christians in Pakistan is dire, and immediate action is necessary to address this crisis. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your prompt response and action to help bring justice to Lazer Nazir Masih and his family. Sincerely, Faraz Pervaiz

This is how Secretary Rubio defines the Strait of Hormuz: "This is an international waterway and international law is very clear... international water is no country can control them." His argument in the context of the Strait of Hormuz suffers from significant legal deficiencies: First, there is no "high seas" corridor in the Strait of Hormuz. Second, the fundamental principle of free and safe passage stipulates that neither "transit" nor "innocent" passage should be prejudicial to the peace, good order, or security of the coastal state. This was the baseline until February 27. Since February 28, when an actual war of aggression was launched against Iran, a fundamental change in the legal landscape occurred. Under international law, passage loses its "innocent" or "transit" status once it involves the transport of weaponry intended for military operations, threats of force, or intelligence gathering against the security of the coastal state. Similarly, a state utilizing a strait to launch an offensive against a coastal state effectively designates that area as a theater of war. Consequently, this situation invokes Article 51 of the U.N. Charter on the right of self-defense, in accordance with a "peremptory norm" that supersedes standard navigation rules. It also invokes the doctrine of rebus sic stantibus (a fundamental change of circumstances), which justifies a legal recalibration of the principles of free and safe passage, balanced against the legitimate security concerns of the coastal state. Third, conversely, Secretary Rubio’s statement effectively defines the illegality of the U.S. blockade, as it is exercised specifically in: a) international waters; and b) areas that are not under U.S. control, to be subjected to its extraterritorial sanctions.

From a distance, this figure seems to be wearing a robe draped over his shoulders. Step closer, and you realize it is not a robe. It's his own skin... This is the statue of Saint Bartholomew, carved in 1562 by the Lombard sculptor Marco d'Agrate, and it stands inside the Duomo of Milan. Bartholomew was one of the twelve apostles of Christ, and according to tradition he was martyred in the cruelest way imaginable: he was flayed alive, his skin stripped from his body, and then beheaded. D'Agrate chose to show him not in the moment of agony, but afterward, standing upright in defiance, his own flayed skin wrapped around him like a garment. What makes the sculpture extraordinary is the precision beneath that skin: every muscle, every tendon, every vein and cord of the human body is exposed and rendered with such accuracy that anatomists have studied it. This was the Renaissance at its most fearless, when the same curiosity that drove artists to dissect the human body in secret produced an image of a man turned inside out, his suffering transformed into a study of how a human being is actually made. And the sculptor knew exactly how remarkable his achievement was. At the base of the statue he carved a line in Latin that has outlived him by nearly five centuries: Non me Praxiteles, sed Marcus finxit Agrates. "I was not made by Praxiteles, but by Marco d'Agrate." He was comparing himself to the greatest sculptor of ancient Greece, and daring you to disagree... I started this newsletter because the artists of the past were truly extraordinary, and fewer and fewer people are showing us what they were capable of. Every week I try to. If that is something you would like to be part of, you can join at the link below, and if you'd like to support my work, a paid subscription is what makes it possible: Thanks for reading.

The Hug of a Hyena: A Warning to the Kinshasa Opposition Before the tragedy, there is a warm embrace; after it, nothing but crushed bones. There is an old, cautionary fable about a man who carried a hyena on his back wherever he went. Seeing this, a passerby stopped him and warned, "My friend, put that beast down. One day, that hyena will make you its lunch." The man ignored the advice and kept walking. A second man approached him with the exact same warning. Again, the man brushed it off, confident in his bond with the predator. Eventually, curiosity got the better of the man. He turned to the beast on his back and said, "Hey, my friend, people keep telling me that you are going to eat me. Is it true?" The hyena, at least, was brutally honest. It whispered into his ear: "You should always fear a threat that two or three men have already warned you about." Before the man could even process the words, it was too late. The hyena gave him no time to think, snapping its jaws shut. This fable perfectly illustrates the fatal mistake of forming an alliance with Félix Tshisekedi. He is political death on legs. It is tragic to watch the opposition in Kinshasa place their faith in a man who is ready to sell out the entire country, and himself along with it, just to retain the presidency. Having tasted the luxury of flying across the world millions of times, he has absolutely no intention of ever going back to a normal life. The political diagnosis is clear: the only cure for the nation is his absolute removal from that office. And for many, the only viable path left to achieve that is through the AFC-M23, for DRC to be at Peace.

What Will The International Community Say Now? When former President Mohamed Farmaajo engineered parliament’s extension of his term in 2021, he argued that he had not personally extended his mandate — that parliament had given him the extension. Last night, Prez Hassan Sheikh Mohamud made a similar argument in the attached video, stating that parliament, through the constitutional changes he spearheaded, had given themselves — as well as him and his cabinet — an additional year in office. This is despite his earlier public position that his mandate was four years and that even if the constitution were amended to provide for five-year terms, such changes would not apply to him, parliament, or his cabinet, but only to the next government. Below are selected quotes showing how the international community reacted in April 2021 when Farmaajo’s term extension was announced. I am wondering what they will say now, particularly given that U.S. Embassy Mogadishu, Somalia and UK in Somalia🇬🇧🇸🇴 representatives convened and facilitated three days of mediation talks. The African Union Peace and Security Council: “Condemns the actions of 12 April 2021 by the House of the People, which extended the mandate of the President and the Parliament, as effectively delaying the elections, thereby undermining unity and stability of the country, the nascent democratic and constitutional processes, which also threaten the relative peace and security, as well as the important gains that Somalia has made over the years with the support of the AU and other partners with huge sacrifices;” April 2021 — UN Security Council: “called on all parties to reject violence and resume dialogue as a matter of urgency and without precondition. They called on Somalia’s leaders to recognise and build upon the many areas of agreement already reached, to resolve their remaining differences and to put the interests of the people of Somalia first, within a Somali-owned, Somali-led electoral process, and with an agreed timetable, as soon as possible”; April 13, 2021 — European Union: “Yesterday, the Lower House of the Somali Parliament voted to a de-facto extension of the mandate of the President and the Federal Government by two years … This action undermines the longstanding effort, supported by the EU and the international community, to rebuild Somalia through consensus. The international community, including the EU, have repeatedly and publicly expressed that we could under no circumstances accept an extension of the government mandate, or any partial or parallel process related to the elections …The European Union believes that the passage and signing of this resolution will divide Somalia, impose additional delays and constitute a grave threat to the peace and stability of Somalia and its neighbours. It certainly does not serve the interests of the people of Somalia. April 13, 2021 — USA “The United States Opposes Federal Government Term Extensions Press Statement — Secretary of State “The United States is deeply disappointed by the Federal Government of Somalia’s decision to approve a legislative bill that extends the mandates of the president and parliament by two years. We have stressed repeatedly that … the United States does not support mandate extensions … Such actions would be deeply divisive, undermine the federalism process and political reforms that have been at the heart of the country’s progress and partnership with the international community, and divert attention away from countering al-Shabaab.” Also attached is a video and transcript of then-opposition leader imploring Somalia’s international partners to take a firm stand and call a spade a spade: “Friends of Somalia, we will advise them to be part of the solution. They should stand with where the solution lies, and they should tell any individual who is obstructing a solution: stop, you are not contributing to a resolution.” “Problems should not be allowed to drag on and fester…” says the then opposition leader HSM

This is a statue of the only man in Troy who saw the trap. He tried to warn everyone, and this is what the gods did to him because of it... His name was Laocoön, a Trojan priest. When the Greek army vanished and left a giant wooden horse outside the city gates, all of Troy celebrated. Only Laocoön refused to believe it. He warned his people the horse was a trick and, to prove it was hollow, hurled his spear into its side. In Virgil's telling, he spoke a line that has outlasted almost everything else about Troy: "I fear the Greeks, even when they bring gifts." He was right. The horse was packed with soldiers, and Troy was hours from destruction. This sculpture shows what he got for it. Two enormous sea serpents rise out of the sea and coil around him and his young sons, dragging all three down together. The father's whole body is knotted in the struggle, every muscle straining, his face locked in a scream. The gods wanted Troy to fall, and Laocoön was in the way. The Trojans watched him die in agony and drew exactly the wrong conclusion: they decided the gods were punishing him for attacking a holy gift. So they pulled the horse inside their own walls, and that night, Troy burned... The statue is called Laocoön and His Sons. It is the work of three Greek sculptors from the island of Rhodes, Agesander, Athenodoros, and Polydorus, and dates to the Hellenistic period, making it well over two thousand years old. Buried for more than a thousand years, it was dug out of a Roman vineyard in 1506, and Michelangelo rushed across Rome to see it the day it was found. It has been called the single greatest depiction of human suffering in the history of art, but it endures because of what it is really about: the man who sees the truth, says it out loud, and is destroyed for being right while the crowd watches... It is one of the oldest patterns there is, and it has never stopped repeating. There is nothing new under the sun.

And, the way you always keep the most important person for last, the fact that the apogee of his acceptance speech was about Connor.. he had me sobbing, cause of how completely unguarded and raw Hudson is here. The way the emotion is slowly building up, as he is going down that list, his voice cracking a bit, his hands shaking. And he can feel it slowly, tears forming in his eyes, tears he is holding in the best he can. As he is holding that award, so firmly, that last name on his list, the one that felt like an awakening. He is the one he'd want to hold right there (or rather be held 🥺). The one who is more than a scene partner, more than a best friend, his "emotional support person in life", his "soulmate", his anchor even. Cracking a joke or two to try to release a bit of pressure, but when comes the point of saying his name "to the honorary Canadian Connor Storrie, I share this award with you." and not find his face, his eyes, his smile in front of him, the absence is screaming in his chest and the tears are closer than ever. Cause to be here, and for that to happen not side by side, like everything they've experienced for the past year or so, this doesn't feel quite right. "A single person is missing for you, and the whole world is empty" So yes he got through that speech without crying (barely), but not without beautifully opening his heart up to us before, and showing just how much he loves him 💓

➡️ The ZANU fighter was just defeated by a 60-year old guy. 😌 This guy, Themba Gorimbo, had the support of most Zimbabweans when he entered the UFC, because – what a great achievement and representation for our country! 👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾 🇿🇼 Then, he made the quintessential error that many shallow Zimbabweans who find fame MAKE – he involved himself in regime politics ... because he saw it as a way to make a quick fortune. 💰💰 He started to ride high on ARROGANCE, and use his platform to insult and mock the opposition movement while promoting ED and ZANU PF regularly. He is especially known for stalking Winky D, and posting negative comments and mockeries about him, in order to please his ZANU masters. He thought that if he placed himself on the buttered side 🧈🍞 – the OPPRESSOR’S side - then he would be on the fast track to wealth, freebies and trinkets. 💵 Amateur mistake. When you’re a professional athlete there is no upside to playing politics. 🤷🏾‍♂️ You’ll just alienate many supporters unnecessarily, and attract controversy. You also draw negative attention to yourself internationally. MMA is a global sport and UFC is the pinnacle of the sport. So then he started losing supporters and attracting criticism ... but continued on his arrogant high horse, believing that his commitment to ZANU would pay off. Then when was CHOKED OUT in his last fight and lost consciousness in front of the entire world 😴- he thereafter had a "Damascus moment" when he realized that HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of UFC fans around the world were joyous about his humiliation! 😃 Especially when at one point he enjoyed widespread support and a growing fanbase - even the Rock had given him a house in the early days ... before Gorimbo showed himself to be an arrogant, toxic chump. 🤦🏾‍♂️ Then after being choked out he tried to “CHANGE” and win people over again, and started becoming anti-Zanu, etc. And it has worked for some people, but for a lot of OTHER people, including me (who was initially a HUGE fan), the damage had been done... 🙅🏾‍♂️ I always support Zimbabwean athletes and teams PASSIONATELY 🇿🇼 – but this guy has shown his true colours, and I find him to be unsavoury... He’s someone who tried to use his platform to benefit from the REGIME. He supported OPPRESSION and mocked the suffering of Zimbabweans, and efforts of the opposition. He is NOT a good guy. 😏 He is only now pretending to be in support of the PEOPLE because he has seen how supporting dictators will negatively affect his MMA career. It actually may be too late for him to redeem himself because even on the MMA twitterverse, I see a LOT of people from around the world posting negatively about his arrogance. They are also calling him a SCAMMER because of the library he had said he was building “in his village” and apparently people donated money, but there is ZERO library in existence 🤔- and when he has been pressed to explain he has been saying to critics that he built ¾ of the library and then he had to tear it down for some reason... 👀 I will always view him as a “ZANU fighter” because that’s what he proudly was for a long time, and has now realized his miscalculation ... and trying to pretend to be otherwise. Anyway, good luck to him. Because these days KARMA is visiting him.

Fellow Africans, In a world filled with countless leaders, only a rare few rise to embody the very soul of their people. Even fewer transcend borders to become symbols of hope, resilience, and inspiration for an entire continent. His Excellency, the Right Honourable The Raila Odinga Amolo Foundation is one such figure. A man whose journey mirrors the struggles and triumphs of Africa itself. Today, I present him for your most serious consideration as the next Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), a role for which he is uniquely and undeniably qualified. I am Kasmuel McOure, a young revolutionary who has stood at the forefront of Kenya’s struggle against oppression, corruption, and the erosion of good governance. I belong to a generation profoundly inspired by Raila Odinga’s unwavering fight for justice. His legacy is a powerful testament to resilience, vision, and the relentless pursuit of democratic values. Raila Odinga’s name is inseparable from the story of Kenya’s democratic evolution. He was instrumental in dismantling a 24-year dictatorship under Daniel arap Moi, championing the transition to a multiparty democracy, and crafting a constitution that secured the rule of law for generations to come. His leadership, forged in personal sacrifice, redefined the course of our nation. Even at great personal and political cost, Raila Odinga stood firm. When chaos threatened to tear our nation apart, he chose dialogue over destruction, constitutionalism over ambition; an extraordinary act of statesmanship in an age that too often celebrates self-interest. But Raila Odinga’s influence reaches far beyond Kenya. He is a Pan-African visionary, an Afro-Optimist who deeply understands the intricate fabric of Africa’s struggles and possibilities. He is a beacon of hope who has dared to challenge injustice and lead with unwavering integrity, even in the face of overwhelming odds. He envisions a continent where trade routes are open, civil unrest is quelled, and Africa reclaims her sovereignty from the chains of foreign exploitation. This vision is not a mere ideal; it is a lifelong commitment, one that has been consistently reflected in his actions and principles. A vision that resonates from the savannahs of the Mara to the shores of Cape Town, from the markets of Lagos to the streets of Addis Ababa. Kenya, with its vibrant online sphere and culture of debate, owes much of its freedoms to Raila’s sacrifices. He fought tirelessly to enshrine the right to free expression and political participation in our constitution. Though he remains a figure both praised and criticized, this duality speaks to his humanity—imperfect, yet unwavering in his pursuit of progress. I speak from personal experience, having been both an ally and a critic. Yet in every instance, I have found in him a leader who listens, mentors, and empowers. In a time when the world yearns for leaders of integrity, vision, and courage, Raila Odinga stands as an enduring beacon. He is a man whose vision for Africa is not confined to today or tomorrow, but for generations to come. A visionary leader who, against all odds, has always prioritized the people over power; an attribute Africa desperately needs at this pivotal moment. Africa needs a leader who embodies wisdom, courage, and an unwavering belief in our collective destiny. A son of the soil, forged in the fires of struggle, and ready to lead us toward a brighter, united future. Africa, I present to you your son, by way of Kenya, His Excellency, the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga.
