The media tries to understand Iran, & its foreign policy, via religion. But that’s inaccurate. Khomeini said the crowning achievement of the revolution was that, after centuries, Iran would be governed from Tehran. Its all about sovereignty.

These children were used in front-line roles, including mine-clearing operations and human-wave assaults. Tens of thousands of children were killed during the Iran–Iraq war in one of the most horrific, shameful, and haunting chapters of Islamic Republic history. While Saddam Hussein started the war by invading Iran, the war went on six years longer than it had to because Ayatollah Khomeini saw the war as an ideological battle, insisting that Saddam Hussein be toppled and that it be acknowledged that Hussein started the war. Khomeini finally gave in in 1988 when he was told by his closest advisors that, after years and at least hundreds of thousands of Iranians dead, the Islamic Revolution was at risk. Khomeini infamously referred to his consent to end the war as equivalent to drinking poison — after the war ended, the regime, due to a fatwa signed by Ayatollah Khomeini, executed over 10,000 political prisoners in a matter of months. Translation is wrong and out of context. In the clip Saddam is saying that Khomeni takeover and Iran starting the war was a distraction operation targeting Iraq. So Iraq would be busy with Iran instead of Israel. Saddam means that Iran and Khomeini were an Israeli proxy, as he later refers to Iran-Contra and how GCC funded it. Iraq asked for the war to be stopped many times but Khomeini refused. GCC would then condemn Iran, but in reality Saudi Arabia was funding and arming Iran to the teeth. Saudi Arabia and UAE had their motives, including keeping a high market share in oil market.
