FYI: This isn’t an accurate depiction of the 1980s. Women couldn’t show hair and ties weren’t a sight back then.

This video is incredibly misleading. The final image suggests that women in Iran are freely walking around without hijab — but that is simply not the reality. Only a very small fraction of women, in very specific areas and usually only during leisure moments, can risk removing their hijab. The vast majority cannot — because the consequences are arrest, torture, or far worse. Little girls are forced to wear hijab in school, women are forced to wear hijab in governmental institutions such as universities, hospitals, at work and even in extreme heat above 100 degrees. The Iranian version of Uber doesn’t allow women rides if they don’t have head covering. The psychological impact of that is profound, and we cannot pretend otherwise. This is so aggravating — they erase the ongoing danger and daily struggle of millions of Iranian women and girls. It really shows that the creator does not have their finger on the pulse of what is truly happening inside 😔
