Israel PM Netanyahu: I have just concluded a short but important visit in Washington, in a conversation with our great friend, Trump. The President believes that the Iranians have already learned who they are dealing with. I believe that the conditions he is creating, combined with the fact that they certainly understand they made a mistake the last time by not reaching an agreement, may create the conditions for achieving a good agreement. He wanted to hear my opinion. I will not hide from you that I expressed general skepticism regarding the quality of any agreement with Iran. But I said that if an agreement is indeed reached, it must include the elements that are very important to us, from Israel’s perspective, and in my view, not only Israel’s. It is not just the nuclear issue; it is also the ballistic missiles and the Iranian proxies. That essentially concluded the discussion, I would say, although it of course also touched on Gaza, the entire region, and other general matters.

Not in 2026 when he possibly convinced Trump to jointly attack Iran, but when he convinced Trump in 2018 to withdraw from the then-signed agreement between President Obama and the Iranians about the nuclear program of Iran. Because what happened is that until then, Iran didn’t enrich uranium since they signed the agreement with Obama. And when America withdrew from that agreement, they started rapidly to enrich uranium up to the level of 60%, which brought them quite close to the possibility of building an atomic bomb. And that has, in a way, created the almost inevitable circumstances to launch this military attack on February of 26th. And the bottom line after this four month process is that we came back to where it started. There is an agreement between America and Iran, after a long period of closing the Strait of Hormuz, which caused serious economic damage to the international community. And we are with an agreement perhaps weaker than the one that was signed by President Obama. I don’t remember that President Obama promised to build up a fund of $300 billion to compensate Iran for the losses of the war, and I don’t know what is the difference in terms of inspecting and supervising the nuclear program other than what was until then. The Obama agreement was also based on the supervision and inspection of the nuclear program by the IAEA, the International Atomic Agency in Vienna. And that’s more or less what they agreed. Now, there is nothing about the ballistic missiles. There is nothing about, of course, the change of regime in Iran. IAEA Director General Grossi on whether inspectors will be allowed in Iran: In order to supervise, we need to inspect. There is no other way. There is an agreement and to comply with that agreement the IAEA will have to have access and inspect... I am prepared to continue the technical work and to be there as soon as possible.

Iran’s FM Abbas Araghchi asked the UN Security Council for extra time to address the Council so he could correct the record after France accused Iran of refusing diplomacy, in a session that ended with the Council rejecting a last-ditch bid to halt snapback sanctions. Araghchi said he made several proposals in New York, including one agreed with France until Paris backtracked and “couldn’t deliver.” Tehran is cooperating fully with the IAEA, he said, pushing back on French claims that inspectors are absent. “They are now in Iran inspecting our nuclear facilities … exactly according to what we agreed with Director General Grossi in Cairo.” He stated that Iran’s nuclear program “is peaceful and will remain peaceful forever,” pointing to the 2015 JCPOA as proof of Iran’s good faith, noting that it was the United States that abandoned the deal and then struck Iran even while negotiating this year. “Once we negotiated, they withdrew. This year we negotiated, they attacked us. There is no reason why we should trust the United States once more.” Despite this, he said Iran came with “constructive proposals” to the UN this week, and continues inspections under its new agreement with the IAEA.

He also says they have to investigate a decision regarding IAEA inspectors. But why is he saying this? The Parliament passed a bill to stop cooperation with IAEA & it was accepted by the Guardian council & signed by the gov. It seems that Araghchi is looking for a way to bypass this and have inspectors on site. This was a mistake by Araghchi, and he’ll receive backlash for this.
