In doing so, the US aims to prevent Iran from collecting fees from shipping companies for passage through the Strait of Hormuz and to deprive it of revenue from oil sales. US Central Command forces will begin enforcing a blockade on all ships entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas at 10 AM ET. The blockade will apply to vessels from all nations and affect all Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. However, CENTCOM has stated that it will not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Navy commander Shahram Irani called President Trump's statements "ridiculous and funny."
