No question #TeamMelli is being used as a propaganda tool for the regime. But for Iranian protesters the Lion & Sun flag is more than a symbol: it is a stance against the Islamic Republic. They see it as the real flag of Iran. And FIFA has banned it. There is a war going on. And between the Islamic regime and the people of Iran it’s been raging for 47 years. The presence of an Iran team at the World Cup is a massive opportunity for the people to show the world that millions of Iranians see this regime as worse than the Nazis and they want them gone.
