While I was in Manchester last week, I did the same thing I did in London today in between work meetings. The relatively young-in-service officers (who all look so young, or it's me getting older), are a cohort I have huge respect for. Here is a fact. Policing is not for everyone and many that apply to join do not get to the attestation stage. Some that do, drop out thereafter or do not pass. So, those that get through the training and get on our streets deserve encouragement, mentoring, and support - not ridicule. We all used to be new at something once. It was a real honour to meet those new Metropolitan Police officers as I did those from Greater Manchester Police officers, chat with, and thank them for their work. To those of you; young and not so young in service 😀 - thank you for all that you do to keep us safe all year round. Chin up. 💙

In Iran, the people are determining their own destiny. Right now in cities across the country truck drivers, bakers, and workers from multiple industries are on strike. Maria Bartiromo highlighted their fight but the Iranian diaspora must make sure other media know about the nationwide strike in Iran as well. To Iranians around the world: each of you has a responsibility. Do not let the voice of our compatriots risking their lives striking and protesting be ignored. The media and policymakers must know Iranians are not seeking a handout. They are not waiting on the sidelines. They are fighting for their rights, for their freedom, and for their dignity. The diaspora must continue to inform the media and officials in their host countries repeatedly and respectfully.

I was honored to receive Log Cabin Republicans’s Outspoken Award. Just as I defend the rights of every Iranian, I am proud to stand up for the rights of the Iranian LGBTQ community. However it is my brave compatriots inside Iran who truly deserve this honor because they are not only speaking out for their freedom. They are fighting for it. And they are not only fighting to free themselves; they are fighting to free the region and the world from the clutches of this regime and to usher in a new era of peace.

The Media would never report this Los Angeles, California: “I have been on the ground for the past 4 days. I just got back from the federal building. I was detained twice. The National Guard are not being deployed against US Citizens. The Marines are not being deployed against US Citizens. They are being stationed at federal buildings across the country where riots are taking place. They do not leave the steps of those buildings. They do not touch the sidewalk. They are there as security for those buildings. Those buildings are federal property. They are allowed to operate there. If you do not storm the Federal building and you do not attack the National Guard, you will not be attacked by the National Guard. They will not retaliate against you if you do not threaten them. And by threaten, I mean try to break their ranks. I stood 2 inches from the National Guard today. They did nothing to me. I watched several other people who were protesters stand 2 inches from the National Guard today. They did nothing. If you do not try to enter the federal building, they will not do anything. They are not allowed to operate in a law enforcement capacity because the cities that these buildings are in will not allow them to calm down and stop being stupid. I can say that this is a lie, because I was in Iran in 2010. I was there with President Ahmadinejad, together with the President of Türkiye, signing an agreement that Iran would not produce nuclear weapons—it would enrich uranium only for peaceful, scientific purposes, just as Brazil does. In the same way, they claimed Saddam had chemical weapons, and they went and destroyed Iraq. Where are those chemical weapons? More than twenty years later—where are they?

In the interviews, several police officers said they are not against the people, but are protecting the people. They’re saying that they are living in the same atmosphere as the people, eating and living like everyone else does. There have always been moments in history when the unthinkable or the unspeakable have occurred. Moments recorded in the pages of history, where we must use our imagination to conjure up images of the pain and suffering those that lived through those moments endured. Never in a million years do we ever imagine from the lofty height of our comfortable existence, WE will become the subject of one of those stories that future generations will look upon in the same way today we look upon 1930’s Germany. I have taken the liberty of adapting the now famous words of Pastor Martin Niemöller First they came for the black people And I did not speak out Because I was not black. Then they came for the Mexicans And I did not speak out Because I was not a Mexican. Then they came for the Muslims And I did not speak out Because I was not a Muslim Then they aided and abetted Israel to murder Palestinian women and children And I did not speak out Because I was not a Palestinian Then they came for the LGBTQ + community And I did not speak out Because I was not a member of that community. Then they came for the poor, the vulnerable and the disabled And I did not speak out Because I was none of these.
