More than 40 days after the mass killing of protesters in Iran, students held large rallies on Saturday in Tehran and Mashhad, chanting pro-monarchy and anti-Khamenei slogans at Sharif and Amirkabir universities of technology and the universities of medical sciences in Tehran and Mashhad. Protests at Sharif University were met with force, as Basij paramilitary forces affiliated with the IRGC were deployed to crack down on the demonstrators.

Sharif University siege [Tehran, 2022] In October 2022, the Islamic Republic turned Sharif University into a site of siege, trapping students on campus and sending security forces into one of Iran’s leading universities during the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising. Students were chased into the underground parking structure, where security forces fired pellets, paintballs, and tear gas, while families, alumni, and supporters gathered outside the university demanding that the students be allowed to leave safely. Robina Aminian, a 24-year-old university student from Marivan who was studying in #Tehran, was shot and killed by the regime’s security forces in the Velenjak neighborhood of Tehran two nights ago. She was an undergraduate student of fashion design at Beheshti University. She was a talented designer, highly skilled in designing dresses and accessories inspired by traditional Kurdish styles.
