🇺🇸Special Envoy Steve Witkoff: ‘Let’s see if the Iranians want to talk…if they do, I’m sure the President would be open to it.’ Steve Witkoff realises the disaster for the region he has helped unleash and is now trying to publicly push Iran’s government to reach out to Trump to negotiate. The only problem is… Trump has done everything to send the message that negoating with Washington is a fatal mistake for Iran. It signed and abided by the JCPOA until Trump torpedoed it and tried to crush Iran’s economy with sanctions. In 2025, under the cover of distraction US negotiations, Israel launched its twelve day war on Iran with the US bombing Iran in Operation Midnight Hammer. In 2026, Iran once again negotiated with the US, and proposed breakthrough concessions which were made public by Oman’s Foreign Minister which could have avoided the war, if the US and Israel had not already made their mind up to launch the war. Ali Khamenei was assassinated in their opening strikes. So why would Iran trust Washington in negotiations now? The only hope for negotiations and will be indirect negotiations and mediations will be through the GCC states, Russia, or China. It is unlikely Iran’s leaders, from a humiliated Pezeshkian, to Ali Larijani, to Mojtaba Khamenei, will be in any mood to send officials to meet Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, giving Trump the ‘negotiations through strength’ photo op, and hand Washington concessions.
