Ireland ordered more than 130 electric double-decker buses before ensuring its depots could even charge them. As of July, most of the buses were still sitting idle in storage, even though many were delivered more than two years ago. The cost of storing and servicing the electric fleet has...

1,085 Olectra E-Buses to Drive Hyderabad’s Green Mobility Vision Hyderabad is set to witness a major expansion in clean public transport with Olectra Greentech Limited securing a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC ) through Evey Trans Pvt. Ltd. for the supply of 1,085 electric buses. Telangana Honourable Chief Minister Sri A Revanth Reddy has consistently articulated a clear vision to position Hyderabad as a national leader in green mobility. He has emphasized rapid electrification of public transport, reduction of urban carbon emissions, and expansion of clean energy infrastructure as core priorities. The induction of 1,085 electric buses aligns with the state government’s strategy to modernize public transport, reduce fossil fuel dependency, and move towards a low-carbon urban ecosystem. The order has been awarded under the PM E-DRIVE initiative spearheaded by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), aimed at accelerating electric public transport adoption across Indian cities. The buses will be deployed in Hyderabad, strengthening the city’s sustainable and zero-emission transport network. Headquartered in Hyderabad, Olectra Greentech has established itself as India’s leading electric commercial vehicle brand, consistently holding the No. 1 market share in electric buses. With over 3,600 electric vehicles deployed nationwide and an order book exceeding 10,000 vehicles, the company has clocked more than 500 million green kilometres. Alongside electric buses, Olectra also manufactures electric tippers supporting sustainable infrastructure development. For this project, Olectra will supply 12-metre low-floor electric buses in both AC and non-AC variants. Designed and engineered in India to suit domestic road conditions and high-frequency urban operations, each bus will feature advanced front and rear air suspension systems for improved ride comfort and passenger safety. The buses will be powered by high-capacity Lithium-ion battery packs offering a driving range of over 250 kilometres per charge, with opportunity charging capability of approximately 45 minutes. Dedicated wheelchair spaces will be provided to ensure inclusive and accessible mobility. Managing Director Mahesh Babu described the order as a significant milestone in Olectra’s journey of advancing India’s electric mobility transformation, reaffirming the company’s commitment to Make in India and world-class electric bus manufacturing. Under this vision, Hyderabad’s public transport system is being reshaped to be efficient, environmentally responsible, and future-ready—supporting India’s broader clean energy and net-zero goals. On Sunday afternoon, in a drive at the Gourkanya Bus Terminus in Malda, names, logos and stickers mimicking those of government buses were removed from several private buses. Many private buses were operating with colour schemes (blue and white) and names resembling those of the state transport corporation. The use of such colours and names was causing confusion among passengers, particularly women. Following an order from the state government, free travel for women on government buses was introduced on 1 June. However, due to the visual similarity between government and private buses, many female passengers were inadvertently boarding private buses and subsequently getting hassled. Some private buses were displaying names like NBTS, MBTSG, and MMT to mimic the name of the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC). Additionally, the vehicles were painted blue and white, just like government buses. On Sunday afternoon, Anupam Chakraborty, the regional transport officer (RTO) of the district, arrived at the Gourkanya Bus Terminus with transport department staff. There, misleading logos and stickers were removed from several private buses. Furthermore, markings and text imitating the state transport corporation’s branding were painted over with black ink. Passengers expressed relief at this move by the transport department. They believe that a clear distinction between government and private buses will prevent future confusion and significantly reduce harassment, especially for female passengers. Maloy Karmakar, in charge of the Malda Depot of the North Bengal State Transport Corporation, stated that the blue-and-white colour scheme has been used on NBSTC buses for many years, and the colour of private buses is not within their jurisdiction. However, he noted that female passengers often ask if a bus is a government one; NBSTC buses are painted blue and white as per government regulations, while the RTO office would be the authority to speak on bus colour specifications.

GENIUS: Vermont Spent Millions on Electric Buses That Turned Out to be 'Unreliable' in Cold Weather | Mike LaChance, The Gateway Pundit Behold the genius of liberalism. Like so many blue states, Vermont decided to ‘go green’ and spent millions on electric buses. There’s just one little problem. It turns out that they’re not reliable in cold weather. It’s a good thing they never get cold weather in Vermont, right? Except for maybe just six months out of the year, of course. The Vermont Daily Chronicle reports: Vermont EV buses prove unreliable for transportation this winter Electric buses are proving unreliable this winter for Vermont’s Green Mountain Transit, as it needs to be over 41 degrees for the buses to charge, but due to a battery recall the buses are a fire hazard and can’t be charged in a garage. Spokesman for energy workers advocacy group Power the Future Larry Behrens told the Center Square: “Taxpayers were sold an $8 million ‘solution’ that can’t operate in cold weather when the home for these buses is in New England.” “We’re beyond the point where this looks like incompetence and starts to smell like fraud,” Behrens said. “When government rushes money out the door to satisfy green mandates, basic questions about performance, safety, and value for taxpayers are always pushed aside,” Behrens said. “Americans deserve to know who approved this purchase and why the red flags were ignored.” General manager at Green Mountain Transit (GMT) Clayton Clark told The Center Square that “the federal government provides public transit agencies with new buses through a competitive grant application process, and success is not a given.” ... Who could have predicted that this would not end well? Besides everyone. ... Sure, the buses don’t work and millions of taxpayer dollars were wasted, but the important thing is that progressives felt better about themselves for a little while. That’s what’s really important here, isn’t it?

OAU transport system was near perfect, adequate buses and bikes, we rarely experienced queues until the First Lady came and decided she didn’t like the ease of transportation and introduced “change” by donating CNG buses. The school management in turn banned all motorcycles and commercial buses on campus and subjected over 30,000 students to just about 50 buses and a few tricycles. OAU has one of the largest land masses of any Nigerian university, yet students are now stranded daily. This is a Monday morning where students are supposed to rush for class, but they are stuck at the campus gate because of the inefficiency of the CNG buses. Students are struggling to go to class in the morning and in the evenings to even get back to their hostels. Students staying off campus now spend almost double to get to campus, all alternative transport means have been removed The management have cars to bypass all of this, but majority of students do not. Yet they released statements talking about how the buses will “ease transportation” and even implied students appreciate the system. Meanwhile, students are trekking, missing classes, and spending hours in queues. Let it be clear that students do not appreciate this system. It has made our lives harder, not better. What used to be a smooth system has now become a daily struggle. There are many pressing issues in this school, but they chose to dismantle a working transport system and replace it with hardship. We can no longer remain silent. Let the whole world know what OAU students are going through. Please if you come across this tweet, help us retweet it whether you are an OAU student or not We demand our towngboro buses and motorcycles back.
