The heavier airframe gives commanders more standoff capability while in rugged terrain. Tonight's reports fit a pattern of Tehran trying to project greater deterrence against Balochi militant groups, which have carried out attacks on the border posts and convoys throughout the summer. It also means the new heli's are being integrated faster than initially expected into counterinsurgency ops.
