Is a door on or off? 🚪🤔

I look at it like switches, in that left state (open) it’s off, and the right state (closed) it’s on

When a door is closed it is ON. When it is open it is OFF. The door is not the same as a doorway. The door's job is to close the doorway and so when it's working it is ON. Boring I know but there you go.

A door is to neither block passage or allow passage. It’s to ‘control’ passage. As such, it’s always ‘on’ in any state.

If the doors only function is to allow passage, then why have them? A door’s function is to restrict passage, is a better phrase. So when it’s closed, it’s doing its job of restricting that passage, so it is in fact ON.

A passage way is to allow passage. A door being in a passage way is to restrict passage. Therefore, closed door is ON

When a door is closed it is engaged and so is on. When you disengage the door it is open and thus off
