Is Cal Ripken's game record overrated?

If it’s so overrated then why is no one else even remotely close to achieving it? Considering how often guys are injured in baseball, even freak injuries, 16+ years of never taking a break is pretty respectable

People are passionate about Cal Ripken and his ability to answer “present” when the coach called role.

Boils down to this. It’s not. No other sport has its consecutive games streak worshipped like baseball yet the consecutive games streaks in all three other major American sports are more impressive. Few people know hockey streak leader and it’s wayyy more of an accomplishment.

The difference is that Cal Ripken’s record will never be broken since it’s so absurd. All of the rest of these records, at the bare minimum, will be pressure tested over the course of time.
