You're simply good in watching and analyzing football. You saw it first (I still remember your post on this). Rice is being employed behind the opposition's block in the 1st phase by splitting the CBs wide and acting as a shadow CB in the build-up. This is good. He's facing the play, not under pressure and he's running it very well. This is among his great asset. Last season he was played between the opposition's press which in some way minimized his strength. Arteta learned this somehow.

@jj_bull Arteta playing him that deep is to manage his fitness. We cannot realistically expect him to play as the left 8 this season after the summer he had. Playing deeper allows Arteta to manage the distance he has to cover to shut down attacks which playing further up exposes him to.
