A gift from God (Ephesians 2:8). Dead corpses don’t respond (Ephesians 2:1)

It’s both. Faith is the gift, and that gift prompts the response—a response that flows from the new creation begun by the Spirit. Saving faith is qualitatively different. People trust, believe, and respond constantly, but their faith is always misplaced: in idols, lies, self, false religion, intellect, or myths. This is the fruit and deceitfulness of sin. Those who have been born again cannot “sin” in the sense of returning to unbelief, forsaking Christ, or being at war again with the living God by returning to a life of sin. The prodigal son does not return only to leave again. They have peace with God. They have died to sin and have been risen with Christ.

Many types of faith. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the WORD of GOD."Rom 10:17 "Your faith has healed you." Mark 10:52 "Small, mustard sized faith to move mountains." Matt 17:20 "Supernatural manifestation of the HS." 1 Cor 12 "By grace are you saved through Faith."
