The reassurance is predictable, but the statistics deserve more attention. In the latest 12 months to June 2026, recorded crime across Scotland rose 7%, non-sexual violent crime rose 7%, sexual crime rose 9% and crimes of dishonesty rose 10%. And Glasgow hardly starts from a low base. Glasgow City recorded 829 crimes per 10,000 people in 2024/25, compared with 545 across Scotland the highest rate of any Scottish local authority. People can offer reassuring anecdotes about feeling safe after dark, but anecdotes shouldn't be used to brush aside the direction of the actual crime figures. Perhaps STV should put the statistics on screen and let Glaswegians make up their own minds.
