In his rush to ingratiate himself with the Asian community he failed to acknowledge the flood of cheap heroin entering the country through Asian gangs. Thousands of Australians died from addiction and overdose. Anyone who can remember the smacked out girls - young and old - working up and down Liverpool Street, Kings Cross will know of this tragedy. Howard never spoke out as it would implicate the Asian community … and because this was happening to people who probably never voted for him or his policies. The Liberals today are weighed down by Howard’s legacy and it’s one of the reasons they cannot move forward. But calling him a war criminal only throws shade on real war criminals. Like Tony Blair.
