I met a man that served in WWI it was about 10 years ago and he was about 95-99. He served in the Air Corps (before the Air Force). It was a honor to meet him and he was the only WWI vet I’ve ever talked to. War is hell the propaganda machine was alive and well then.

It's amazing the way how some people that don't know the first thing about warfare romanticise it. Saying things like people felt proud to do their bit..... The reality is much different. My grandfather was a POW & survived the deathmarches then managed to escape - I have his diary from the time. What they endured was awful. He never forgave the Germans. I have been in multiple wars now & nothing I endured was as bad as what my grandfather had in WW2. As humans, we can be so cruel to each other.
World War 1 was a nightmare for men as it was a dark war given the mental and physical toll the soldiers endured day and night in the trench warfare.
