🤔 Is it possible that Bernardo Silva can't quite explain how he does this because he doesn't do any of this consciously?

He gives a pretty good account—constantly processing information on the pitch, using your body to look to protect the ball. He does both things exceptionally well.

The brain processes information and receives stimulus in milliseconds, below the threshold of conscious awareness. Pretty difficult to articulate.

Movement is voluntary therefore always conscious of it. I would say he is finely attuned to important information and can pick up affordances based on his capabilities - all conscious of course.

Hi Tom! Could you explain @davideagleman's use of the word 'conscious' and 'unconscious'? He's talking about movement and distinguishing between conscious and unconscious.

Exactly the same for tennis players and other sports stars trying to explain the unexplainable. Tennis players cannot accurately describe how they know where an opponent is going to serve or hit. Tells you everything. It’s complex and multi-faceted.

I feel like i learn very little from high level pros talking about the game or certain techniques. They are the outliers, it clicks in their mind so much easier than everyone else

Maybe he could better describe it in Portuguese

Sounds crazy but a lot of it is just hitting the fuck it switch. Fuck it, I'll hit this dribble Fuck it, I'll take that shot And dealing with any consequences that come with it. It's pure confidence.
