@Oxfam @EndOvershoot @AndrewLFanning @ezramarkowitz Hello Michael You promote #Degrowth aka depopulation especially in poor developing countries. Just like your fellow antihumanist/Malthusian, Obama, your argument is, if everyone else is as rich as the US, 🌎 would 'boil over'! Just terrible

@Oxfam @EndOvershoot @AndrewLFanning @ezramarkowitz Such an annoying question! Not one single factor causes climate change! And climate change isn't the only catastrophe hitting life on Earth. But if population was even just at the level of when I was born - 320% smaller than now - it would clearly help!

@Oxfam @EndOvershoot @AndrewLFanning @ezramarkowitz Lol I get asked this question all the damn time and have to explain repeatedly - so thanks for sharing the video in a bite size enough for those folks in the back who will never hear the complex response or read any research that’s shared…

@AndrewLFanning @Oxfam @EndOvershoot @ezramarkowitz This is true. But when many people hear “rich people” they think “some one else”. EX: A US household with 2 adults and 2 children only needs to earn 30k/year, putting them in bottom 20% for US, to be in the top 20% globally.

@Oxfam @EndOvershoot @AndrewLFanning @ezramarkowitz The IPCC recognizes population growth as a major driver of climate change, accounting for around a third of the increase in emissions since 1990. And, the world's poor would prefer not to remain that way.

@Oxfam @EndOvershoot @AndrewLFanning @ezramarkowitz Yeah, heard this meme before. Sorry, it's both according to some demographers and political economists. That's what's complicating the debate over degrowth and just transition.

@Oxfam @EndOvershoot @AndrewLFanning @ezramarkowitz It's a bit misleading. The poor indeed use substantially less total energy, but they also use it far less efficiently. Imagine burning coal in an open hearth in your home.

@Oxfam @EndOvershoot @AndrewLFanning @ezramarkowitz Earth warms up, earth cools down, has done for millions of years and will continue to do so, no crisis at all

@Oxfam @EndOvershoot @AndrewLFanning @ezramarkowitz “The population problem” over the next 20 years is going to be ‘not enough people’. Many populations are not growing beyond replacement because they are wealthy.
