When you have no adversity to overcome in life, like the type of poverty where the next meal is a challenge, your life loses meaning. When your life loses meaning, you need to find a new adversity to overcome to spark that meaning. That's why people make non-normative sexuality into an identity. Because they think hetero-normativity is oppressive, they think being non-normative gives them something to overcome, which in turn becomes their life's meaning.

Gay Pride is exactly like White Pride. Not saying being proud to be white is bad... the Left think it is. The point is they say you're BORN gay, there is no choice, that's the same as being born White (no choice). You're right why is it an identity? If they didn't choose it?
