We all dressed like this

I'm crying because my past life is all AI now

Right... it's called civil society and a unified culture. It's been under attack for a long time. Because a happy, safe populous won't abide a revolution.

Hey, there were tiny TVs in the 80s!

“Waldenbooks” ❤️

I used to spend hours on end with the radio on and finger on the record button to make my mix tapes back in the 80-90s. I learned to print in super tiny letters to list all the tracks on the small cassette label 😬 Then came Napster and CD's...

90s were the exact same as this. This is depressing. Take me back.

I wish we didn't have to use AI to relive this. The irony of that is weird. Nonetheless, it made me sad.

😃 yeah, I didn't get my first mobile phone until 1989
damn, what you trying to do to me this morning... almost welled up.

Not a single person is somewhere else in their head?

MTV kicked off the 80s until they killed that too. Bastards

Nostalgia. It skews things so much. I hate to be a downer on this. Although a lot of the things mentioned in this video were real and pretty cool: The 1980s were one of the most dangerous decades in American history (peaking in the 1990s). And a lot of those crimes went unsolved. Various politicians like to take credit for the drop in crime. But it was actually technology that fixed crime. Cell phones, better CCTV, advancements in forensics.

Making an AI video about this topic is like making a porno video about not masturbating.

Yeah. I remember the 1980s perfectly. What hasn't changed is the land, the Pacific ocean, the Sierra Nevada mountains, Yosemite. A 1,000 years from now all this will still be here, virtually unchanged. "Earth Abides".

@PalominoOMG We could have it, just keep criminals in jail

Was like that in the '60s as well.

I used to hole up in my parents basement and play Activision Kaboom for hours and didn’t talk to anyone for days. That might have been 1982 but close. Oh and Night Stalker and my fave of all time Utopia!”

The 80s are to my Gen X generation the same that the 50s were to my parents. It really was a glorious time. Being a teenager in 1985 was awesome. No internet, no cell phones, just a bicycle, the shopping mall, and there were arcades everywhere.

I miss the mall—which was the closest thing to social media. There is no time machine necessary, if you visit Poughkeepsie, New York, you will find a mall exactly like the that one, and everyone is friendly and polite. The MacDonald still has free refills and a waitress.

Yes, this... My heart sometimes aches for this, and grieves the world in which we now live, or try to live. This generation will have to really work to even understand how far we've descended, how much we've lost. That which is sold to us as 'advancement' is really mostly theft. ...of peace, of thoughtfulness, of deeper relationships, of perspective. We now increasingly resemble rats on a wheel more than flourishing, relational humans. Each of us will have to fight for pushing back against the Iies...

📺

It was such a better time to be alive.

This can't be real. In the 1980s, no one felt compelled to take selfies all day and give a running commentary on their life.

I almost believed it for a second... but then I realized it's fake. Three-hour cassettes don't exist. There are only 60 and 90-minute ones...

I love the invisible tape and headphones.

I lived it, i was there, where's the school bullies? Being at home alone and all you can do is make phone calls, stuck to 4 tv channels of mostly garbage She's romanticized a time that didn't really exist the way she thinks it does

Yeah the good old days! 80ties and 90ties were the top of our civilization. Everything after that is some shit digital manipulated slop.

As someone who remembers 1985 well, I’m here to tell you older people were saying the same thing then, but harkening back to 1955 or 1945. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug but it’s bullshit.

Brian, how do you reconcile your enthusiasm for technology with the realization that we’re apparently destroying what it meant to be human

80s didn't have bullshit AI videos

For the people saying this isn't true, you are simply wrong. I was 5 in 1985 and I was outside constantly. I learned to ride a bike this year and went what I thought was far from home. The mall alone is something that has changed. It was an amazing world full of wonder.

AI is making us nostalgic for being human.

Okay, but those kids used to beat each other to a bloody pulp. Emergency room visits for broken noses and street injuries were a usual regular thing.

And she never mentions the fact that immigration killed this?
