I repost this every time I see it.

@XXPrimarch >"Punk was always left wing" Never heard of skinheads?

@XXPrimarch Then they argue the โNazi Punks Fuck Offโ thing as if they were an anomaly of non-leftists.

@LibertarianG0th @XXPrimarch Yeah they sold out big time. Many such cases...

If there were no right wing punks then why would there be so many songs complaining about right wing punks? Also even Anarcho band Crass was anti-Marxist

Frank Zappa also knew whatโs up

Frank understood.

Sure

Punk was never left/right. Punk was anti-establishment. There is a massive difference between the two.

In my experience as a skater punk in the 80's, there was no left and right. It was individual freedom vs collectivism coupled with a deep distrust of authority.

Punk was always working class. Working class was always right leaning but anti-authority above all. The 2nd wave were the trust fund posers and commie larpers.

@XXPrimarch What do i need to do to convert your from libertarian to right wing?

@XXPrimarch Trump converted me to libertarian with his bump stock ban. ๐

@XXPrimarch Agreed on that. I'd give you a machine gun if I were in charge. If forced to pick between Trump/random dem, who you picking?

I know goths and don't know a single left wing one. Most are libertarian with mild right tendencies.

Crass - Bloody Revolutions (1980)

I remember these days. I ran in a circle of punks. We had various contradicting belief systems, but we got along great. The culture war destroyed this.

The Overton Window has been moved. Johnny Rotten is now considered "far right" by the left-wing.

I'm an old punk, and my whole mentality was "Leave me alone." Turns out I was libertarian.

Fucking morons, Punk is anti-establishment and always was in the late 70ies and early 80ies when punk was still underground. Punk didn't become "left wing" until it got swallowed up by corporate record companies in the 90ies. Now "punk" is just a label used to sell albums. ๐

It's so funny that punk and Goth were always about pushing against the norms not about politics but that'd interfere with the current left's ideas because they're intolerant and forget that the liberals of the 90s and 00s have more in common with the Libertarians of today.

gothic and libertarian? you gained a new follower

Punk is against the system, the leftist Boomer hippies have become the system, so if you support them, can you really call yourself punk?

Yea no! I'm not leftwing and I been Goth since I was a teenager and old AF now in my mid forties. Young Goths to have so much privilege! Back in the 90's I was shanked twice for being Goth, not one of these goths gotten bullied and it shows. They need to find out

One of the things that the kiddos today don't understand is that the punk movement was a rebellion against the corporate mainstream. But it was also a rebellion against the leftie hippie culture which had dominated America for 20 years. Like today, being on the left is actually being a part of the establishment. That's why being conservative is the new punk.

I like how in the past punk/goth was about what music you listened to. Now subculture is what gender or sexuality you identify with. Is it because music is just shite nowadays?

I think you may be on to something there. ๐

No, punk was always anti-establishment, which, yes, historically has been left wing. Not so much the case today where the left has become the very establishment it swore to destroy.

Punk is anarchy. Anarchy is no government and personal responsibility which is the complete opposite of the left. It has more in common with old time country which is usually far right / libertarian. Punk became faggy/bootlicking in the 2000/2010 era and is not considered punk by any OG.

Clearly they never met the Ramones or the original godfathers of punk whose majority were conservatives and/or libertarian.

The idea that non-conformist movements have always been not only exclusively-, but inherently left-wing is nothing more than a historical revisionism seeking to dismantle the idea that leftism can be critiqued and opposed by those who exist outside the status quo.

Literally every goth I knew in high school is now a die-hard conservative. LOL

@frenlyfritz

The only politics I ever really encountered in punk and goth was being individualistic, anarchy and antiestablishment. I have always felt like there were a lot of sheep that wore the clothing are didnโt believe the beliefs or walk the walk. They were just sheep with mohawks. Those are the people they call themselves punk today, acting like they know what the fuck theyโre talking about and pushing communism. Completely antithetical the original movement. The original libertarian platform is probably closest to punk. Thatโs been taken over by the Chase, OLIVER Wing as well.

@ARedLionheart Half of the Ramones (the founders of punk) were conservative so that argument is already in faulty ground

I wrote this song to mock modern punks for having lost the plot and being collectivist

Yup, I have been goth since the 80s and I am a conservative leaning libertarian. It has never been just left wing. Suddenly over the past ten or fifteen years gatekeepers have been pushing goth is only for the left. I have been kicked out of many goth groups for being anticommie.
