Finally broke it down Barney style with a visual and it clicked for him….then he said, ‘whatever, he’s going to take away income tax and I don’t buy Chinese shit anyway”. Then I sent him the news about that Trump Bible he ordered being made in China. He then called me a communist baby killer and told me to fuck off. On the bright side, he knows how tariffs work now.

or what about this? : -> tariffs are placed on imported goods -> US companies STOP importing foreign goods -> demand goes up for locally produced goods -> US companies start buying from US businesses -> more money starts regulating through our economy and stays -> possible inflation on prices -> after 1+ years the tariffs are removed on foreign imports -> prices drastically drop on foreign imports due to no demand -> US companies start outsourcing again -> inflation drops, economy is doing better overall.

You are all missing the point. The benefit is to USA manufacturers whose goods become comparatively cheaper & hence consumers begin to buy locally produced goods rather than imported goods & local manufacturing sector gets stronger. Negative is that it is no longer a free market

Why does Trump like them? Because tariffs do not require Congress consent, and it increases the US revenue. US government collects tariffs like taxes. It will bring in money for him to spend. It will offset his rich tax cuts/make it look like he’s getting foreign countries to pay down the deficit. It’s all a ruse. It has been tried before and it failed. The problem is that when a wholesale importer has to pay a tariff, they pass it on to the retailer. The retailer then passes on the cost to us, the consumer. So Trump gets optical benefit of reducing the deficit, while it’s the citizens who are reducing it by paying higher prices for goods. Essential WE are paying off HIS spending. It has NOTHING to do with deterring China imports. It’s the biggest grift and he knows it. He doesn’t care that our economy will tank. He will lie as he has always done and blame it on someone else. Inflation and Interest rates will balloon and Joe Taxpayer will foot the bill while we go into a Recession. And Trump won’t care because if he gets into office he doesn’t intend on leaving. His lifestyle will continue to be maintained, kinda like Putin… see? Putin lives like a king, while his citizens live in relative poverty. That is Trump’s goal… always has been. Who do you think has been coaching him for decades? Russia. He won’t need approval from anyone any longer, including his voters. He has said as much. And these dumb fuck MAGA are making it happen. They can’t put the piece together because he has them so spellbound. Well WE can’t let it happen. If you don’t believe me, just think on it for a bit. Trump has one goal, and it is not MAGA. It is controlling America’s money. That is all he wants and has been from the beginning. Trump probably made a deal with Heritage… find a way to get rid of the constitution, and rid him of elections, and he will put them in control of policy. SCOTUS was the first big step… Project 2025… and this pesky election. And it’s very close to happening. WAKE UP MAGA!

The point of tariffs is to promote bottom-up manufacturing in the United States. Yes, there will be US companies importing goods they outsourced to china paying the tariffs. THAT IS THE POINT. A tariff in that situation makes the manufacturing of the goods in China essentially equal to what the cost would be to manufacture in the United States. A tariff protects US manufacturing against foreign nations with inhumane labor environments that pay pennies in labor. And so I must ask, are YOU that dumb? That explanation was too complicated. Try this: Tariffs on Chinese goods are NOT PAID BY CHINA (or any exporting country). THE IMPORTING COMPANY pays the tariff when the goods enter the U.S., & they make the money back by raising the cost we pay for the goods in U.S. stores.
