Electric cars are sold as clean. Yes, EVs cut tailpipe pollution, but if the goal is CO2 reduction, the full chain tells a different story. The production of an EV requires more mining, refining, battery production and power generation over a standard petrol or diesel car. Battery minerals are dug up and processed elsewhere. Air, water, soil and workers take the hit. Across the full chain, EVs cut CO2 by only 20%. But on top of that, batteries degrade. Over an EV's life, one battery replacement will collapse any CO2 advantage. EVs also add major electricity demand. They do not erase the old energy system. They load more pressure onto it. So this is not zero emissions. If you want to charge your EV at night or when the wind isn't blowing, then it will be 100% fossil fuel powering that. EVs are not green. They are virtue signaling on wheels.

BURKINA FASO NATIONALISES FIVE MINING ASSETS On 27 August 2024, Burkina Faso announced that it would nationalise two gold mines, Boungou and Wahgnion, following a legal dispute between London-listed Endeavour Mining and a local company, Lilium Mining. On 11 June 2025, the government declared that the nationalisation process was complete. The state-owned Burkina Faso Mining Participation Company (SOPAMIB) officially owns and controls the two mines as well as three mining licenses previously held by Endeavour and Lilium Mining. Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré has expressed interest in revoking more foreign mining permits and granting the state greater control over the mining sector. In the Lok Sabha today, I addressed questions on critical minerals — an area that is vital for India’s economic security and clean energy transition. Currently, India depends on imports for nearly 90–95% of its critical mineral requirements. To reduce this heavy dependence and strengthen our strategic capabilities, the Cabinet approved the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM). Under this mission, we are actively pursuing government-to-government agreements to secure critical mineral assets abroad. I shared that an agreement with Argentina for lithium mining has already been finalised, and discussions with countries such as Brazil are in advanced stages. Emphasised that simultaneously, we must also look within. Urban mining presents a major opportunity—through systematic recycling of e-waste, we can recover and reuse significant quantities of critical minerals. Watch here: Ministry of Mines
