Come on Gary, paying interest for a currency issuer is a policy choice. Why does the UK govt have to pay interest on reserves, or sell gilts into the market when we're not on a currency peg or Gold Standard?

They don't have to, but to significantly do otherwise would probably cause a big drop in the value of the pound.

Protect your money now! Two US banks collapsed, billions trapped. Invest in gold, a retirement hedge outside of the government's control.

I watch the whole thing and even took notes! What I'm seeing is that people are too tired to understand these principles (I mean they are pretty complicated) But instead of trying to understand it many resort to pointing the finger at migrants or Minorities. And the far right is loving it!

I think our woes started a long time ago when we sold off the family silver and privatised everything. This moved more money into the hands of private equity and increased the cost of public services.

Does it not also indicate that the BoE fucked up by ramping up interest rates over the last few years?

The BoE is not, technically, supposed to worry about govt debt sustainability in it's rate decisions. It's supposed to focus on inflation, which is still above target, so I'm sure they'd use that to defend their policies so far.

No. It can't. Anyway, that interest you're so concerned about? Govt can sort that in a minute if it wanted to actually govern. It's meaningless. Real concern is govt pretending it's commanded by the markets when it isn't. Who elected the markets FFS?
