Is there still a problem with Mark Rothko's paintings? If so, perhaps Sister can help solve it

People used to mock dear old Sister Wendy, but she knew what she was talking about.

I know people who have cried looking at Rothko. I get nothing. The idea that size alone is deep is silly. The paintings all explore the same spatial dimension and are lacking in any innovations. Great painting evokes a sense of awe emotionally and aesthetically. This is not that.

God shes so brilliant. I love her interview about Piss Christ so much.

It's interesting to me that most people confuse the subject of a painting with what the painting actually looks like. Like, if you see something you don't understand then obviously the painting isn't good, b/c why think about what the subject matter is about?

@missdaisyfdoo We actually own the box set of Sister Wendy. Listening to her talk about art that has an erotic aspect is just sublime. Watching Sister Wendy talking about paintings, Bob Ross painting or Julia Child cooking is very soothing.

Sister Wendy was awesome.
