Disagree. There is more to life than winning and losing. Watching sports offers comradely, critical thinking, empathy, happiness, decompression. Also, it’s okay for people to feel joy by watching others succeed. We already do that with our friends and our children.

Some of us need a little escape from the real world. It ain't easy out here. What are we supposed to do? Vote harder?

It's just another form of entertainment. Are broke people not allowed to be entertained?

No. Now do movies, tv shows, music, or any other form of entertainment. There's nothing wrong with watching others demonstrating peak performance. Might even motivate you to try harder yourself.

If you take this argument to it's logical conclusion you would never spend time reading fiction, watching movies, or enjoying art. Framing your whole life around winning and losing makes you a loser. Given there are people who worship sports and they likewise are missing out.

Yes. Especially the NFL. It's straight up idolatry. It doesn't have to be though. The NFL has conservative men in the palm of their hand. If the NFL Super Bowl half time show was a drag performance conservative men would still watch.

The older you get the more this makes sense. What a waste of time and money.

I think @JerrySeinfeld said it best... which opened my eyes long ago. We are just cheering for clothes.
