If your driveway is facing north, that means your backyard it facing south, so you’ll get way more sunshine in your back yard and probably in your house since there’s typically more windows towards the back yard than the front:)

No it's not true. Any place that retains more of a shadow than it does sunlight is naturally going to remain cooler. Concrete and asphalt stores the energy, and while it may be true that in small storms this can happen, it's not going to be consistent. Props to the guy removing snow in shorts and not even a sleeved shirt.

Indeed, also most of your windows should be facing south to let the light/heat in. The overhang on the roof should be at the right angle to let the winter light in, but block the summer sun. These are some simple cheap things you can do when building to get massive gains.

This is true for snow, I have a north facing house and for my across the street neighbors the sun will remove a light snow, but none of us are chilling out in the backyard in the winter. In the summer, my backyard gets a lot more light, later into the evening.

@EricaRN4USA 1000% true. Our neighbors across the street: Driveways are first to melt, leaves are the last to fall. On the flip side, they get baked in the summer. Our lawn stays green all summer. Theirs is almost dirt in August.

The snow fall amount will be the same regardless of direction the house faces. If you want access for your driveway you will need to remove the snow regardless.

I owned a 104’ east facing driveway in Minnesota for 8 years. Had massive issues with ice, etc.. Built a house that faces south, in Minnesota. For 14yrs I heard “why is your driveway always clear of snow? “ I intentionally built south facing and it paid off handsomely

A house facing south does not keep a driveway from accumulating snow. That is a ridiculous claim and to purchase a house based on that faulty line of reasoning is beyond stupid.

I’m in the same situation he is. I face north, and their driveway gets a lot more sun, which makes a big difference. On the upside, you’ve got a sunny backyard. Maybe look for a place that faces east or west and get the best of both worlds.

I never shovel my driveway because I don't have one. The gravel parking patch doesn't need to be shoveled and I casually kick a path on the front walk for the mailman. Live simple.

Haha! My house face on south side and let sun shines through windows when trees completely nakedness...it created warm in my house more...yet when spring comes my trees grow leaves to cover and stay in shade to keep cool through the summer! It is win win. I love huge trees!

@realAnn_29 True. Lived in Colorado 11 years. Driveways on north facing houses do not get direct sunlight. Snow/ice will stay for weeks. South facing driveways will be clear after a couple days of sunshine.
