@gunsnrosesgirl3 Yes! The French are rude, condescending, arrogant and the epitome of what it is to be an asshole!

@gunsnrosesgirl3 No! But in France you will get an honest level of engagement from someone paid to serve you, not contrived engagement from someone who is desperate to earn tips to stay off the poverty line.

@gunsnrosesgirl3 Yes, if you don't speak French, it is true. The problem: US service is great, the food not so much...

@gunsnrosesgirl3 No. Not in general. Most of France is quite friendly and restaurants are attentive. You do have to signal for the bill as they don’t want to pressure you to leave. Paris might have a little bit of this, though.

@gunsnrosesgirl3 I would prefer something in between. Give me my food and leave me alone. I don't need you standing there chitchatting. I've been to Paris. The service was just fine.

@gunsnrosesgirl3 europeans make a livable wage. your “tip” won’t make/break their livelihood, so no need to be bubbly.

YES! Lived in Germany 4 1/2 years and this is absolutely true. . Movies over-romanticize France. Especially Paris! Too many panhandlers, city was dirty, locals were not inviting and the food is meh! It’s not all bad… Eifel Tower, Louvre , Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, the architecture is Gorgeous, and of course the Language will melt your heart!

@gunsnrosesgirl3 This is precisely what creates the gap: anglophones are advanced in every field, while francophones settle for the role of vassals. Two cultures, two mindsets, a world apart. And both excellence and efficiency are anglophone.

@gunsnrosesgirl3 In US they serve you with a fake smile and after they present an unrequested check and disappear. By the way, this place is walkable and it is not USA.

Americans are all business, we eat and go. Europeans are all about the experience, they occupy a table for 2-3 hours, eat a meal, let it digest, order coffee and dessert, sit a while. I got into packed restaurants by telling them I’m American. They knew I’d be gone in 45 minutes.

@gunsnrosesgirl3 I absolutely hate the service in USA/Canada. It’s completely over the top, insincere, intrusive and always ruins the experience. I will call you if I need something, otherwise please leave me the fuck alone. I prefer the French way, also their food is better.

@gunsnrosesgirl3 Absolutely true. I had the same experience in Austria 50 years ago. But tips in Europe are miniscule, usually just rounding up a little. If your bill is 9.6 francs, you give them 10. Still service is slow because they think you’re there to enjoy the atmosphere, not to eat.

@gunsnrosesgirl3 I'm going to pick France. Because it's not actually that bad..... and I'm not constantly interrupted by fake annoying wait staff who only operate that way for the tip.
