The United States want s us to import their poisonous chicken. They can eat their own shit. We have enough chicken farmers here who provide jobs to our own people.

Why were we importing in the first place is the South African market is large enough to sustain SA's poultry needs? Or is the price going to double now? Like with everything "made is SA" it is normally quite pricey...

South Africa should block everything from the US if possible, if we don't take care they can even send us product infected with disease. They are going to kill us.

I love the energy, but that $450M U.S. loss is wildly inflated—real 2024 exports were only ~$20M (USDA data), not half a billion. Even peak years never hit $450M. South Africa’s restrictions are legit: HPAI (bird flu) is still raging in 23+ U.S. states. SA lost 7M+ birds in 2023 and is protecting its R100B+ poultry industry and 100K+ jobs. Same science-based rules the U.S. uses when banning imports from affected countries. Yes, local farmers benefit—no more cheap dumped U.S. chicken undercutting them (bone-in cuts faced 30-82% anti-dumping duties anyway). Consumers might pay a bit more, but food security > cheap wings. AGOA expired in Sept 2025, so quotas were already shrinking. SA has offered “self-ban, self-lift” access once the U.S. is bird-flu-free—fair deal. Bottom line: SA isn’t “blocking” the U.S. out of spite; it’s protecting flocks and jobs while the U.S. sorts its outbreaks. Let’s push for HPAI vaccines and fair trade instead of fake numbers. #TradeFacts

SA government does not have the balls to pull this off, well at least not from what I have seen. If by any chance there is some truth to this then I applaud who ever decided to enforce this.

There was a deal for America to dump their unwanted chicken here, at a fee of course. There was this chicken that had foam when cooked. Very old and if defrosted, it smell rotten. OBC sold chicken bones. Americans used the meat as fillets.

Knowing anything American 🇺🇸 you know that’s at least 50% chicken the rest is a chemical concoction not even fit to be used as animal feed. They should be banned permanently if not for domestic poultry gain but for our overall health… we don’t want to be ballon’s like randy fine

We shutdown chicken farms - Rainbow and them for this rubbish. We destroyed jobs in SA for this thing. Why must we eat chicken from America?

No it's not. South Africa import most of its chicken from Brazil. 8 times more than what they get from US

This has long been a critical loophole in the South African government’s policy framework — a misstep that resulted in thousands of workers being laid off. Under Zuma’s administration, governance often leaned on opportunistic political shortcuts, and this particular decision stands among the most unforgivable failures of his tenure. Its reversal is not only overdue, but a necessary and widely welcomed correction to restore integrity and accountability.

The U.S will soon hit us with a fake Bird-Flue crisis. Why wouldn't they do that again? They always create a fake pandemic to make money. Fake Covid made them trillions & no one questioned it.

@LieslGottert1 Yes. The ban on poultry imports from the USA has been an issue for many years. The same with the import taxes on motor vehicles from the USA.
