To be a “Christian” is easy, anyone can say “I believe in the virgin birth, that Jesus died for sinners, and was risen from the dead by the power of God” But to be a child of God, you must be Born Again… by the Spirit of God, so that you may come to Christ. John 6:63-65 (KJV) 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life. 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

So God just deceived and allowed His people to believe a lie and build a religion on it for 600 years. Makes complete sense.
