The IDF has Launched a Preemptive Strike Against Iran's Nuclear Program, Israeli military spokesperson Effie Defrin: For years, the Iranian regime has been waging a direct and indirect campaign of terror against the State of Israel, by funding and directing terrorist activities via its proxies across the Middle East, while advancing toward obtaining a nuclear weapon. The Iranian regime is at the head of the axis responsible for all terrorist attacks against the State of Israel since the beginning of the "Swords of Iron" War, including by arming and funding the Hamas terror organization which was responsible for the October 7th Massacre. During the "Swords of Iron" War, Iran even directly attacked Israel twice, firing hundreds of missiles toward the State of Israel. The Iranian regime has proclaimed that its objective is to destroy the State of Israel. Senior officials in the Iranian regime have publicly declared their intent to destroy Israel, and are operating to achieve this together with their proxies in the Middle East. Today, Iran is closer than ever to obtaining a nuclear weapon. Weapons of mass destruction in the hands of the Iranian regime are an existential threat to the State of Israel and a significant threat to the wider world. The State of Israel will not allow a regime whose objective is to destroy the State of Israel to obtain weapons of mass destruction. The IDF has conducted a process of preparations for a campaign on the frontline and on the home front. The resilience of Israel's citizens will be an important factor of the campaign. The IDF is ready to continue to act as required. The State of Israel has the obligation to act in defense of its citizens and will continue to do so everywhere it is required to do so, as we have done in the past.

Maariv: The current situation on the Lebanese border is extremely problematic and Israel is biting its lips. Hezbollah is constantly sending forces from northern Lebanon to fight the IDF in the yellow area in the south of the country. Incidentally, Minister Katz boasted that the IDF destroyed the bridges over the Litani, thereby cutting off the south from the rest of Lebanon. The IDF says that the water level in the Litani River only reaches the knees, so it really doesn't matter much to them how they cross the river, over the bridge or under it. But oh well. Why spoil the victory narrative. Hezbollah is trying to turn the tables, to change the narrative. It is doing this with the help of the cheap, simple, and readily available weapons it has, but it is also working to intensify its activity with the help of the documentation of its attacks, which appears to be psychological warfare to sow fear on the Israeli side. By the way, this is not new, and it used to do so in the 1990s, when it carried out operations against IDF forces in the security zone. But Hezbollah understands something else in recent days. Unlike the 1990s, in recent days it is increasing pressure on the border line and on the conflict line communities. It is building the equations it loves so much: the residents of southern Lebanon are evacuated from their homes; the residents of the northern conflict line border will experience an intense routine of fighting with missile and drone attacks. Yesterday, a source on the front line spoke about the plight of the region's residents, a plight that illustrates how Israel has fallen into Hezbollah's trap. It has moved on to a long war of attrition, one whose sole purpose is to undermine and disrupt Israel's security routine on the northern border "We are in an impossible situation. They shoot at the settlements in the evening or at night and expect the residents in the morning to send their children to school or go to work".

The military has wrapped up a snap drill on the Jordanian border, simulating sudden events to test its preparedness. The pre-planned drill, dubbed "Sulfur and Fire," began overnight and was completed a short while ago. It involved the 96th and 80th regional divisions, responsible for the border with Jordan, along with special forces. The military says that during the drill, several scenarios were practiced, including terrorist infiltration into communities, drone attacks, and "complex incidents" in the resort and industrial areas of the Dead Sea. The drill practiced calling up troops and deploying stand-by forces; coordination between the two divisions; and air-ground coordination, including fighter jets and helicopters carrying out dozens of strikes "within short time-frames," the IDF says. Special forces simulated "complex incidents" in civilian areas at the Dead Sea, including a scenario of a terrorist infiltration at a hotel, according to the military. The military says that standing army and reserve forces who were called up were deployed "within short timeframes," and the turnout of reservists in the 96th Division's volunteer brigades stood at 100%. An initial debrief of the drill found that new defense directives implemented as part of the lessons learned from the October 7, 2023, onslaught, along with recent reinforcements on the Jordanian border, "contributed to the successful handling of a sudden incident," the military says. The IDF says that it will also conduct an "in-depth review of the lessons from the exercise, identifying weaknesses and noteworthy points, to continue to improve the military's defense and preparedness for a variety of scenarios."
