"Now, I don't know if rape happened or not. I am completely open to the evidence that something like that did happen. The problem is when you say it's systematic mass rape & you repeat that over & over again, that implies that it was used as a weapon. It's dehumanizing propaganda that Hamas resistance fighters used rape as a weapon and as a tool. I have not seen any evidence of that. The LA Times had to retract the fact that that was put out there initially. The UN this investigative body that Jayapal is talking about that Israel needs to comply with -- they actually tried to conduct an investigation & went to Israeli authorities and said: show us the evidence for mass rape. There is a war against women. It’s called rape. Women are always the first victims of conflict. They are not only raped and kidnapped, but also sold and exploited as slaves. Their pain is never ending. It’s not only a woman that is destroyed when it happens, but the whole community, a whole family. The women of Congo, the women of Sudan, the women of Ethiopia, they all need us. I am today also especially willing to have us remember the women who were violated on October 7th, who were kidnapped and who were raped. This was also rape as a weapon of war. We need to condemn it, and some of them are still held as hostages. I would like to finish by honoring a woman from my city called Nathalie. Nathalie loves to go running in the morning. When she went out in 2016 to run in Vilvoorde, where I live, someone beat her up, raped her, and left her as if she was dead. After that, she went through so much pain, but the perpetrator was free three years later. The pain was so intense that Nathalie requested euthanasia, and she was granted the right to have euthanasia because the pain was unbearable. This is what our system does to women who are victims. John Mearsheimer on October 7: “It’s consistent with international law for Hamas to want to break out of the concentration camp and engage with Israeli military forces in combat, which means they’re going to kill some of them. So the fact that they killed Israeli soldiers is not a case of murder. Now, there were clearly Israeli civilians who were murdered as well, but I would be willing to bet, in the final analysis, however, that Hamas did not murder many of those Israeli civilians. But be that as it may, whoever murdered those civilians committed a war crime.
