After the Syrian interior ministry announced today that they had stopped an illegal arms shipment being smuggled by Iranian agents to Hezbollah in Lebanon using oil trucks coming from Iraq to Syria's coast, Iraqi truckers were allegedly held on the Syrian side of the border in the hot summer sun and refused permission to cross back over to Iraq until they were sniffed for contraband and illegal weapons by the border unit's dog. However, the truckers complained that they were told that the dog was "sleeping" and that they'd have to wait in the sun while the dog finished its nap in the cool air-conditioned caravan.

One of Israel's strongest advocates just admitted they can't keep fighting forever That was the biggest surprise from my interview with Richard Goldberg. He's spent years warning about Iran, defending Israel's security concerns, and arguing that Tehran's nuclear ambitions and proxy network pose an existential threat. So I expected him to argue for more military action; instead, he kept coming back to something much bigger: the wars have to end eventually. Not because Iran has suddenly become peaceful, or Hezbollah no longer poses a threat, but because it's unsustainable. He said time and again that this is the moment to turn their military victories into political ones. The Gulf needs to reduce its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz. Hezbollah has to be prevented from rebuilding, and Lebanon has to become sovereign again. Because if none of that happens, then all the military success of the past year simply resets the clock for the next war. That struck me. Because if someone as hawkish as Richard is talking about ending the cycle rather than extending it, then the question is whether Israel knows what winning actually looks like anymore. #Lebanon: the Imam Ali Complex has come under the spotlight recently, especially after Al-Jazeera leaks revealing how Assadists are building a network expanding across the Lebanese border. Built last year near Hermel (~10 km from the Syrian border) by Hezbollah with Iranian support, the complex was built to shelter Syrian refugees, along with a few Lebanese families who lived in Syria under Assad (mostly in area of Qusseir). Residents of the complex are aligned with the "Axis of Resistance" ideology, as evidenced by the widespread presence of Hezbollah and other symbols. The Syrian refugees living there are described as Alawite and Shia families from the Coastal Areas and Homs province, some of whose members were killed fighting with Assad's forces or Syrian Hezbollah. It is strongly suspected that besides some former Regime members, Assadist insurgents are also sheltered there. The complex, built without official authorization or State supervision, has raised concerns in Lebanon itself. The Syrian refugees living there are described as Alawite and Shia families from the Coastal Areas and Homs province, some of whose members were killed fighting with Assad's forces or Syrian Hezbollah. It is strongly suspected that besides some former Regime members, Assadist insurgents are also sheltered there. The complex, built without official authorization or State supervision, has raised concerns in Lebanon itself.
