Ok, for those that would say "our parents did this for years and they weren't affected", you are right. For her and the doctors and those that are scared the smoke would cause them cancer, you are also right 😌. Can smoke cause cancer? Everything done in alarming manner can cause detriment to health, moderate and mild manner, NO. That being said, here's what really caused the cancer- Fear. Every disease and ailment — cancer included — has a biological shock (trauma) that can activate it. The fact that there's the information of "smoke can cause cancer" out there, that's enough shock anyday you come in contact with such smoke and your fear and stress level went up high. You then calm down your mind from the shock, but then developed symptoms afterwards — healing symptoms —, out of fear, you start to worry and the symptoms becomes exaggerated, and then the cancer become pronounced, the day you receive the diagnosis of the cancer, your problem become doubled because that's another fear that intensify things. It all started from something you held as belief. The reason why our parents didn't have cancer is because they didn't "know" and believe it can cause cancer or anything. So indeed what we think manifests on the body. This is a complex topic, I only boiled it down. And No, I'm not saying fairytales. 🧲

She did not say you should stop using it. All she is saying is don’t inhale the smoke.

Nowadays, everyone seems to act like an expert while ranting about on social media. Our parents and grandparents used it and lived long, healthy lives, it’s part of our culture, and we’re proud of it. If you dont know how to use it properly, ask a native user to show you.

Traditional culture used smoke for multiple purposes, but traditional living was also more open, airy and people spent time in the outdoors. People cooked outside and smoked incense in earthy dwellings that had better ventilation. Today's confined spaces built with concrete and sealed windows mean the smoke is concentrated and you are inhaling that, on top of a sedentary lifestyle. She gives a simple remedy: smoke it when you are out and air the house more.

Similar to insecticide, I believe that whenever someone uses it, they should leave the house until the smoke is completely gone.

The thing is, most people don't burn their incense and stay inside the smoke, most of the time, it's done after cleaning then the room is allowed to calm.

According to Global Cancer Observatory data Nigeria's lung cancer rate is about 7.9 cases per 100,000, affecting men (ages 60-69) twice as often as women. These cases are linked to tobacco use, biomass smoke, or occupational exposure, not traditional incense.

Incense is not toxic, so stop spreading misinformation. There are no perfumes or parabens added — true incense is made from natural tree resin or gum, and its scent is completely natural. In fact, essential oils can be more concentrated and potentially more harmful when misused. Frankincense, one of the most well-known types of incense, was actually one of the gifts given to the infant Jesus by the three wise men.
