I’ve been working quietly on something that marks a new chapter for me. Music that carries where I come from, who I have become, and where I’m heading. This album is my story, the lessons I have learned, the friendships I have lost, the wins I have celebrated, the grief of losing my father, the joy of welcoming my daughter into the world, and so much more. People often say my story is a story of misdiagnosis. It is not. My story is a story of the American mental health system working exactly as intended. What changed is that I stopped interpreting my thoughts, emotions, and struggles through a medicalized lens. That shift transformed my life. One of the most liberating realizations I had after leaving the medicalized psychiatric system is that the purpose of life is not constant happiness or the absence of pain, but connection, meaning, and purpose. Life can be painful, and struggle is inevitable — but I no longer fear emotional pain or automatically translate it into pathology. Thank you to Secretary Kennedy for having this conversation with me on his podcast.

This is one of the best videos to ever exist for entrepreneurs, creators... I think about it often. In 2016, Pharrell Williams visited a NYU music production class to critique student songs. At the beginning you could see student "Maggie Rogers" drenched with the absolute terror of sharing this with him. Pharrell is there just trying to keep his excitement in. The guy couldn’t wait to tell her this song is the bee’s knees. After he listened to a song called “Alaska”, he explained why “I have zero, zero, zero notes for that:” 24 hours later, someone posted the clip to Reddit. It blew up and the rest is history. Grammy nominated, millions of followers etc. And Maggie responded to the Reddit thread (i'll share screenshot in the next tweet). This story I find so cool because it inspires other artists to share what they got. We all can all connect with the fear of showing our work. It ain't easy. And to have a unique POV like Maggie. Easy to copy, harder to have something unique. I’ve got a bunch of designs, creations that have never seen the light of day. This video inspires me to publish more. My point of sharing this video: Publish your art anonymously. Or publish your art proudly as yourself. Bonus points if it's one of a kind work. But publish your darn art. My Testimony ‼️‼️ Watch till the End 😭😭😭😭😭 Five years ago, I walked away from the world and chose to put the cross before me. I gave my life to Christ. Before that, my life was very different. I was a cocaine addict. I struggled with drugs and alcohol. I lived a life that led me to ruin a 12-year marriage. But today my story is different. God has restored my life. He has taken all the broken pieces and put them back together. And I stand here today as a woman who knows that God is not finished with me yet. He is still molding me. He is still transforming me. And all I can say is this: it can only be God. Anyone who has struggled with addiction knows how hard it is to walk away. Many people go to rehab again and again, and years later they fall back into the same place. Recovery is not easy. Doctors help us, and they are a blessing. But the kind of freedom that completely breaks chains… that kind of saving power comes from God. So if you are in a dark place today, I want you to hear this: God is for you, not against you. THE KING AND I… This rough VHS clip is from 1996 when I was struggling in the crowd to record King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (Kwam 1) at the Nigerian Corner at the Notting Hill Carnival in London. Never in my wildest dreams did I think just 3 years later I would become his manager, and my journey in music would begin. For those of you that have been asking me for that K1 documentary, now you will have it! This is my story with the King of Fuji music during the 5 years I spent with him. At home with family, in the studios for 5 albums, backstage and on-stage all over the world, on the planes, in the cars, from Lagos to London, across Europe to Canada and our world tours, including the famous American tour of 2002, I recorded all the way. From our good times, recording the album New Lagos for Bola Tinubu, the near death on a flight from Toronto, and also when I was stabbed in the head that I still carry the scars till today… EVERYTHING, and some surprises. If Netflix doesn’t value proper African music documentaries and original stories, we will take our content to other platforms. Watch this space for more details next month July when I make a big announcement. I am the original “content creator” 😎
