It all started with a “wrong number.” That wrong number quickly turned into friendship, and then into romance. Larry was grieving his wife up 35 years who recently died of cancer. In his moment of grief in despair he found sunshine and her name was Tina. But the love... show more

Kids, check on your aging parents, especially when something like this happens to them. Make sure they don’t follow for scams. My mom gets text messages all the time and she always says why are they messaging me? I keep telling her that they are people trying to scam you

I have a tough time believing that anyone falls for this shit, for real.

Older people fall for it all the time. Seniors are prey for scam artists

So unreal in these times, after all these years, people still becoming victims of this shit.

Red flag once they mention WhatsApp

Damn!!!! That’s all I talk to my boyfriend on🤔

They go after people that are emotional. I got scammed once too.

They do they have entire systems to find people who are going through tough times and they hit them at their lowest or when their memory starts to fade

So, very shortly after his wife of 35 years passed, he jumped in full bore with an online person? Maybe I am hearing this wrong.

I don’t know how long it took but yeah he was grieving and some beautiful young Asian woman texted him by accident. “Wrong number”it seems obvious to most of us, and when he texted his stepdaughter to invest with him because he needs so much money, she started crying and told him he got scammed.

I guarantee you she studied him before messaging him. Knew his wife had died - because he posted that. This is why it is so important not to personal information on the net. Something so simple as just wanting to reach out to people in a time of grief and you fall prey to these demons

@The_Real_Bjorn1 I think they scrape obituaries. Survived my husband Larry 71 was the key

There were so many red flags here

So many. On one hand how do people get taken like this? On the other hand they are older and really don’t know these scams are out there🤷♀️

@Texas_jeep__guy Fucking boomers dude

@Texas_jeep__guy Right? Greatest lives ever had and totally naive

Seriously. Boomer couldn’t be that upset over his dead wife if he was able to be honey potted that quickly or even at all. Being half his age and married 15years if my wife passed I wouldn’t be interested in touching another female again for the rest of my life. And on top of that he could go get a studio apartment and let a growing family with young children have his home but of course he (along with most boomers) would never consider that. He deserved what happened to him

These scams are all over. This app has so many of them.

I can’t believe people fall for this stuff.

Someone stole my Identity. And they stole $5k fro y crypto account. I complained about it online and then they found me on X and tried telling me the recovered my account but would need $2k to ba able to send it. They did everything this man’s describing.

People have no idea how they prey on people during tragedy. They hit you when your home isn’t foreclosure. They hit you when your wife dies. It doesn’t usually start out with. Hey do you wanna buy some crypto

@_SmokeyGirl25 My sister believes all the scammers Fortunately I keep only enough in her checking to cover monthly bills I am in charge of her trust and POA so my real potential thefts are stopped She can’t believe people are that evil and trusts I have to constantly monitor everything

@_SmokeyGirl25 Ladies watch your husband as well. My husband fell for it. Lost $77K

Omg....people suck.

God Bless

C'MON!!!! Are you fkn kidding me?

Right? It seems so obvious, when he was a lonely, grieving man, and some pretty girl gave him attention. Oldest play in the book.

This is so awful 😖 People grieving and lonely are vulnerable. Check in on your folks regularly.

I don't care how good a person seems to be. Don't ever ever ever ever allow them into your bank account!

@cg_sands4 Someone on this platform was trying to pass themselves off as Dr Jack Krewse, a well known retired neurosurgeon who does crypto, but wanted moved the convo to telegram and get me to buy into crypto. FAT CHANCE. Scammers are everywhere, beware!

Another retarded boomer

No one’s this $tupid!

@TheFloridaMike oh dear

@AshSavesUSA Always block rando “wrong numbers.” But this guy did zero third party due diligence? Weird and sad.

Very sad, and I’m sure anyone would say it could happen to anyone. But he should have smelled a rat.

We have to educate our aging family members. So sad.

What a dummy.

Same thing happened to my dad after his girlfriend passed and then he passed. Wrong number text. Woman tells him she’s an investor and to get the WhatsApp. I intervened and told him to cease all communication when this person started talking about crypto.

You are a hero of a son and I’m so sorry. My dad has had multiple strokes and he’s got scammed out a bathroom remodel and a driveway but that was thousands not hundreds of thousands

Many such cases. Boomers are primed to believe that someone much younger and more attractive is in love with them. Their narcissism makes them easy marks for the predators.

He fell for the 'wrong number' scam?! Come on, dude. 🤦♂️

@BredsguardDalen 😔

How could he not tell it was a scam? I knew from the first text they showed, that someone was trying to reel him in.

You cheated on your soulmate. You disgust me and you got what you deserve. Dumbass.

That’s why you should always talk to your accountant and financial advisor before making stupid decisions.

How are people so idiotic to trust catfishers? Talk about retards.

I’m sorry, how can you be so gullible?

@USADocumented I hate this for that poor man. I hope something can be done but odds are not in his favor. I hope others will learn from his mistake. Guard yourself when you are most vulnerable.

@USADocumented That money is GONE. There are so many warnings for people not to fall for this but I know most people this age are not as informed. Very sad and it’s happening a LOT
