It appears Seth Joyner caused a stir this morning because he relayed some criticisms he heard regarding Jalen Hurts. He based that on the comments that @RealDGunn made last night during Seth’s show. Gunn states that the coaching staff and players are “extremely frustrated” with Jalen Hurts play. The... film sessions show there are plays to be made, but Jalen does not play “how the coaches want him to play, he plays, his game”. Gunn has been around the Eagles for a long time and is not a hot take artist or someone looking for attention. This has blown up, so allow me to offer some thoughts: 1. I think we need to take every report with a grain of salt, as I said in the initial tweet. 2. People dismissing this report as “BS” make me laugh. It reveals you have no idea how reporters work, the level of vetting that happens when sourced reporting is used, and the incentives for reporters to get things right. While you should not believe everything you hear (see point 1), dismissing it outright is equally, if not even more naive. 3. Certain segments of this fanbase cannot take any criticism of Jalen Hurts. Gunn is not saying anything the film hasn’t already shown. Hurts is leaving too many plays on the field, particularly against zone defense. That does not absolve the offensive line for its mistakes, or Patullo for his bad play calls/sequencing/design (in fact, Gunn very specifically says he’s not defending Patullo at ALL). But you can acknowledge those things and still recognize that Hurts is contributing to the offense’s struggles. 4. I remember the same push back to the reports surrounding Carson Wentz in 2018-19. Heck, I contributed to that pushback. Turned out, those reports were largely true, we just didn’t want to accept it. I’m not saying Hurts is Wentz, I don’t think that at all. But these reports aren’t being made up. They are being put out there for a reason. We’d be foolish to ignore it.

@sethjoyner @RealDGunn It’s an insult to the team to make this claim. Jalen is playing as an extension of the play calling and if that’s frustrating, the players are smart enough to realize the source isn’t Jalen, it’s the coaches. The team isn’t stupid and they shouldn’t be painted as such.
