Police understandably want to keep the peace with minimal friction or risk of escalation. Unfortunately, that can sometimes come at the expense of protecting other citizens’ rights. It is not appropriate to acquiesce to activists’ demands to exclude journalists from documenting a publicly advertised event held in a public park— here, an anti-Canada rally on Canada Day. This is not only hypocritical, given these activists’ own track record of disrupting public order through protests and counterprotests, but it also rewards intimidation and violence. While we have no desire to make police work any harder or more dangerous than it already is, we cannot simply agree to leave because Antifa says so. 📸 Jul 1, 2026 #Toronto #ProtestMania
