“Many people ask how elephants scratch an itch. 🐘🌿 We often see them rubbing their flanks, rumps, or heads against trees to relieve itchy skin. But what about their backs? Namwan is here to demonstrate her favorite solution! She has found the perfect scratching stick and knows exactly how to use it to reach those hard-to-scratch places. The best part? When she’s finished, she doesn’t leave it behind—she carries her special scratching stick home with her, ready for the next time she needs it! Elephants are incredibly intelligent and resourceful animals. They often find creative ways to solve everyday problems, and watching them invent their own solutions never fails to amaze us. Sometimes, the simplest moments reveal just how clever ~ and how wonderfully entertaining ~ Elephants can be.” ~ Lek Chailert ❤️. 🎦: Credit: Elephant Nature Park 🐘.

Elephants show an ability to manufacture and use tools with their trunk and feet. They use branches to swat flies or scratch themselves. This is one scratching its ear.

Mother elephants often use their trunks to gently hold their calf’s tail, guiding them as they walk together. This tender gesture is not only affectionate; it also keeps curious calves from wandering too far and helps them learn to move safely with the herd 🐘😍

Did you know? Elephants use sand and mud as a vital natural sunscreen and bug spray. Even though their skin looks thick, it is actually highly sensitive, prone to sunburns, and contains many nerve endings.

Dr V Krishnamurthy popularly known as Dr K, a legend in elephant veterinary care dedicated his entire life for elephants till his death. He always used to caution about the danger posed to wildlife by broken glass bottles carelessly thrown by people in and around forest areas. Not many know that glass shards can kill even elephants. It is critical to keep these bottles away from wildlife habitats. Happy to see a major clean up by the Kanniyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary along with the Kanniyakumari Nature Foundation and college students who cleared critical areas by collecting tonnes of discarded glass bottles. Well done DFO Kanniyakumari and the entire team #TNForest

Our conservation journey began with the profound dedication of David and Daphne Sheldrick. For over 25 years, as the founding Warden of Tsavo East National Park, David laid the groundwork for wildlife preservation, while Daphne pioneered the hand-rearing of orphaned elephants and rhinos. Today, their legacy continues through the SWT. From anti-poaching initiatives to habitat preservation and community outreach, our mission remains rooted in the principles established by David and Daphne: a deep respect for nature and an unwavering commitment to safeguard wildlife. It's a commitment to all wild creatures in need. A heartwarming example is our Mr. Bean. #BehindTheScenes

Goooooood morning, we did it everyone!!!! After a long 24-hour ride, Boon Lom is now living her best life at Elephant Nature Park where she’ll never be ridden or abused or in chains again!!! She’s had 3 babies taken from her and been in chains for 35+ years but NEVER AGAIN!!! It’s been an emotional and exhausting week but thank you EVERYONE who donated/shared as together we rescued 2 abused elephants for my birthday and these are the best birthday presents I have EVER received!! As always please retweet this and share this with your followers as rescues are great, but there are still thousands more elephants abused daily and we must make everyone aware to NEVER ride elephants as it’s that uneducated tourism money that funds this cycle of abuse and it needs to stop!!! TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE THAT HAPPEN!

Mentorship is very important in elephant society. During the reintegration phase, we help our dependent orphans transition to their wild lives by offering a safe, supportive environment in which they can learn from and mingle freely with wild elephants, ex-orphans, and their families. This scene captures how naturally these dynamics unfold: The big bull, known as ‘Customer Number One’, is a wild elephant who often arrives early to join the orphans for breakfast. On this morning, he lined up beside ex-orphan Chyulu (far left) and her wild-born sons, Cheka and Charli, surrounded by our dependent herd. Learn more about our work to rescue, raise, and rewild orphan elephants at:

When elephants sleep, they reveal a side of their lives that we rarely get to see ! Here, a herd of wild elephants is sleeping peacefully on an island of tall grass in Assam. Elephants can rest and doze while standing, remaining ready to move at the first sign of danger. But lying down is different. It allows the body to relax fully and is associated with deeper, restorative sleep, including REM sleep, the stage linked with dreaming. A landmark study of two free-ranging African elephant matriarchs found that they slept for only about two hours a day. They sometimes remained awake for nearly two days and lay down to sleep only once every three or four nights. Sleep patterns vary between individuals, ages, species and environments, and much remains to be understood about sleep among wild Asian elephants. But researchers know that elephants are more likely to lie down when they feel comfortable and secure. That is what makes this sight so beautiful. A herd lying asleep together shows they have allowed their vigilance to trust the landscape around them. Video - brilliant Video by Abdul Sahil Scientific references: Gravett et al., PLOS ONE, 2017 and Schiffmann et al., Zoo Biology, 2018. #wildandfree #elephants #wildlifeconservation

Elephants love jackfruit and will go to extraordinary, highly creative lengths to harvest them due to their intense, sweet aroma that can be smelled from miles away. Because jackfruits are the world's largest tree-borne fruit—often weighing up to 80 pounds—they serve as a massive, high-energy snack for hungry tuskers - Meanwhile An elephant from Nelliyampathi forest reserve

Ringworm is not a worm, and it is easier to spread than most people realize. Ringworm is a common fungal infection of the skin that can cause an itchy, scaly rash. It spreads through contact with infected people, pets, shared items, and contaminated surfaces such as locker-room floors. Here are 5 things to know when a “mystery rash” appears: 1. IT OFTEN LOOKS LIKE A RING

🧪 Nature’s Weirdest Spa Treatment: Anting! 😱 This African yellow-billed hornbill looks like it’s being devoured alive… but it’s actually doing something totally intentional called “anting.” Birds (and a few other animals) deliberately let ants crawl all over them, or even rub the ants into their feathers. Why? The ants release formic acid and other chemicals that act as a natural pesticide, killing mites, lice, and other parasites. It can also soothe itchy skin and help maintain feather health. What looks horrifying is actually a clever survival strategy! Nature never fails to surprise us. 🌍🐜🪶 🎥brutaldominion
