I am not sure what to make of this, keen to know your thoughts: · There's an amendment to switch Withholding Tax on betting/gaming from having it pegged on winnings to having it pegged on withdrawals · The rate of Withholding Tax on this is also being revised from 20.0% to 5.0% · These changes are very consistent with what we saw being moved at the Committee of the Whole House stage Musings: · Now that this is being done via an amendment to the Income Tax Act, can a withdrawal by a punter be legally deemed to be an income? · It's important to look at this matter in reference to the historic Sep 2021 judgement on the famous Kitengela Bar Owners Association vs National Assembly & 2 others which threw out Minimum Tax as unconstitutional · The judgement read & in part that "The imposition of the said tax has the potential of not only subjecting the people to double taxation but also unfairly targeting people whose businesses, for whatever reason, are in loss making positions, to pay taxes from their capital rather than from their profits" · Emphasis here is on the fact that the court took issue with taxes being levied based on "capital rather than from profits" · So again the question begs, can a withdrawal from a betting/gaming wallet be deemed to be an income that should then be taxable?

I come from a family of working people, so when I refer to the income tax, I call it a tax on work. Because that’s what it is, a tax on the hard work that you do every day, How will we eliminate it? It starts with slashing the wasteful spending of the Whitmer administration. We can pay to eliminate the tax on work entirely (TWICE) just from the spending increases of her administration. When we get rid of the tax on work, we’ll put more money in your pocket and unleash prosperity again in Michigan.

Someone just argued that income above $2 million should be taxed at 70%. Peter Schiff's response was simple. Once income hits $2 million, stop working. Furlough the employees. Go play golf. Come back in February. Why work for 30 cents on the dollar? And he is right. Most earners at that level would do exactly that. Once they hit $2 million, they would just shut things down. But here's what most people don't understand. The tax code is not just a tax bill. It is a playbook. A series of credits and deferrals that offset income legally. Real estate gets tax breaks because the government needs housing. That offsets a significant portion of the income it generates. The guy asking has never made close to $2 million. He would never open the book or try to understand the tax laws. That is the whole point. The rich do not pay the rate on the page. They pay what the playbook allows.

Tax, tax, tax. It’s all Labour know, it’s all Labour do. Now we potentially have 2 more, 1 for sure. There will be a 22% across the board tax on an interest earned from cash in stocks & shares ISA’s. Bear in mind this is money you have invested that you already paid income tax on and put into an ISA because you were told it was tax free. Then there is a strong suggestion that when Burnham comes in he will immediately put up Capital Gains Tax to match income tax. Thus killing any incentive or motivation to invest in or grow your assets. Tax is there for one reason only. To make the country function well and better people’s lives. We have the highest taxes ever now….but look around you. I defy you to find a single solitary piece of your life or this country that those taxes have improved!!! My advice is….find legal ways to pay as little as you possibly can!!
