'It didn’t hurt.’ Five million people received cervical screening invites last year, but almost a third of people eligible haven’t come forward. If you‘ve been invited, take Jodie’s advice and book an appointment — it could save your life.

Having had cervical cancer, I know how important screening is and much accurate language matters. Men are afforded the dignity of their humanising nouns, when it comes to male cancer screenings. Why can't you afford women this same basic level of respect?

People? Are you popping it up men's bottoms? In men's mouths? Where are you looking for a cervix on a man? Did he maybe bring it in a bag? In sum, only women require cervical screening.

@cervixen Why are you afraid to use the women but just yesterday your account posted urging men to get their prostate checked. Why the double standard? Explain it to us like we're five.

For goodness sake this is a health message targetted specifically at non attenders. How is it going to help women with low education, women without English as a first language know this is for them to talk about people, not women? ONLY WOMEN HAVE CERVIXES

Women. Approximately 40% of women are unaware of having a cervix, using the word women is important to raise awareness of exactly who is eligible. The word men isn’t taboo for public health campaigns, the word women shouldn’t be either. The sexist linguistic difference is clear:

You are a disgrace to 51% of the population you are caring for. Only a women has a cervix. Men do not, and will never have a cervix. Just stop this erasure of the word woman. It’s not helping women at all. Shame on you.

Imagine the NHS being responsible for the fact 40% of women don't go for a smear because they don't understand person with a cervic means them? Imagine being responsible for that when its to late.

Seriously??? My husband didn't receive an invite - are you saying he is not 'people'? As schools have now taken it upon themselves to tell kids that anyone can have a vagina or a cervix, it is not limited to a particular group - how is anyone going to know?

I skipped over the tweet initially because, as we all know, ‘people’ generally means men You must know male is the default. So why produce such a ridiculous tweet? Is your hate of women so deep you can’t use our name, or is this a sly way to reduce the number of smear tests?

Maybe if you referred to us as women more would know it was for them. Shameful misogyny.
