tbh its a bit of a shock to see they swim under water as if they are above water? whenever they go under i always presumed they swam elongated style
Growing up my neighbor rescued a baby loon. He raised it and we used to swim with it all summer. It left eventually but would come back from time to time for about 3-4 yrs and we would go out for a swim. His name was Laird.
Loons are so cool. One pair, for life, one lake. They are amazing birds.
Getting my kayak out on the lakes is absolutely one of my favorite parts of Michigan summers. The lakes are warm enough to swim in but cool enough to be refreshing and the wildlife is next level. I like to put in just before sunrise and then watch the eagles come out to hunt.

Peak Minnesota I realize this is in Michigan, but little did you know pursuant to MN Executive Order 1A any body of water occupied by the Common Loon is sovereign Minnesotan territory for so long as the loon is present.
We have them on our lake, they are so fun to watch.
