one Christmas parents said we're driving from our home in Nova Scotia to Ontario (Grandma's house) Dad rigged the rear of our half ton truck to have heat, so sis and I travelled in there. (i know I know it was the 70's) Quebec decides "Here hold my beer" and gave most of the province an ice storm. Traffic on the trans Canada literally stopped on the side of the road. MY dad told me too open my present from him. New hockey skates! Before they could give us safety instructions or "be back when the street lights come on" We were gone. Skating up and down the road at will. I got flagged by a police officer who had me check each car to see if everyone was ok He radioed ahead and had his colleagues bring a snow mobile . . . and skates He and I skated for hours doing "police work" My dad ruined it! He (being a mechanic) eventually let half the air out of the tires on the truck and was creeping along the road. picked me up and we left the area. Note: for you non-mechanically minded this created a big wide flat rubber surface with just enough traction to get us to the next town Was sitting in front of TV at grandma's house and she screamed "come quick !!!" TV crews had taken images of me helping the police. Needless to say, my story for my class assignment in school for "what cool stuff did you do over the holidays" was pretty cool as well :)
